led lights

I am wanting to change the globes in the downlights in my caravan to LED
Does anyone have any information if there are LED globes available that will replace the halogen ones without having to change the complete light

Hi Christop,
I'm pretty sure the globes you are after are available from www.brightlightautoparts.com Check out the section on led globes.
I have used this crowd a lot and found them great. I have no other connection with them other than being a customer.
Hope this helps
Cheers,
Neil

If you are running LED lights from 240 volts through a 12V transformer then the transformer must be an older type of "iron core" transformer and not a switch mode transformer.

If you have switch modes then you will have to change the transformers to each light to a new LED type transformer.
The reason is that switch mode transformers need a significant load to operate , and LED bulbs do not provid eenough load.

If running from 12volts DC then just plug in the bulb with the polarity correct .

MR16 bulbs fitting perfectly in place of halogen bulbs in our van. Just pick enough LEDs in the bulb to get the amount of light you require, and choose warm white for a more natural lighting. Cool white gives a bluish light. Spreaders are also better for general lighting than the direct beam light of the earlier LED bulbs. Direct beam is good for bed lighting if one partner wants to read and not disturb the other. It will not adequately light the entire page of the book.

Christop

you can almost certainly replce the halogens with LEDs.

However as you can see from the replies there are many types of bulb. You need to specify what kind of bulbs you currently have.

Likley candidates are G4 and Mr16

I have G4 and the LED replacements are brighter and use 1/10th the power.
