Hi all, our trip departure date from Adelaide has been delayed - just wondering whether if we still head to the gulf and arrive mid September whether we haven't left it too late? We were hoping to have been up there by now but it's not to be. Planning to do Borroloola, King Ash Bay, around to Burketown, Normanton, Karumba, Lawn Hill and be up there for around 3-4 weeks after which time we'll go south through central Queensland and NSW. Thanks.

Personally I don’t think so. We travelled this region in July and there is plenty to see and do in the area, weather will be warming up, but you get to escape the cold down south.

If you have a chance whilst in the area don’t over look Kingfisher Camp to the north of Lawn Hill, and if you are at Borroloola you might even want to have a look at Lorella Springs. We didn’t visit Lorella Springs on this trip, but spoke to a few who had come that way and spoke highly of it.

We wrote a blog on the recent trip and it gives some detail on the places we visited. Link to blog Outback Qld & Gulf Savannah

Enjoy, The Landy

+1 for Kingfisher camp. It's great!

We took the track direct North from Lawn Hill through Lawn Hill & Bowthorne Stations to Kingfisher. Great way to get there if you take your time.

Hi, I have bookmarked your link The Landy, and have had a read - it looks like you had a great trip. Hadn't considered Kingfisher Camp but will now try and add that in. I'd been trying to get back to Escott as it's the best place I've ever seen stars/falling stars, but see they have now closed to the public unfortunately. Thanks Bushranger1 too for the Kingfisher camp vote as well.

really depends what you mean by "to late" ...... it will be hotter, the water holes will be lower and the landscape will be dryer but what do you want to see ????
Feel free to ring us anytime at all and i can give you any info you want, we keep in contact with Lawn hill and kingfisher often si can fill you in, alway asking the tourists how the roads are also so we can help others who intend to travel up here, ring us at Doomadgee road house.

Hi Joe, I will take you up on the offer to ring, we will also call through as well and say g'day. I haven't been up that way for many many years and I'm looking forward to the journey :-)
