Narrowed the problem down

Hi Thanks to everybody who has helped with my battery problems (post 8079)
I beleive I have narrowed the problem. It seems to be to do with the glow plug circuit. There is a two cables that lead from the battery to a plug /socket type set-up a few inches from the battery.

When this is unplugged the current draw reduces to Zero.

When traced out one of these (call cableA) wires goes to the glow plug relays and the other (cable B) goes back along inside the front fender back to a plug on the fuse panel. When cable A is disconnected it makes no difference to the current drawn ( still 2 amps)

When cable B is disconnected at battery current reduces to Zero therefore I assume fault is in cable B.

If cable B is left connected at battery but disconnected behind fuse panel the current draw remains at 2 amps Therefore I assume fault is in cable B but before fuse panel.

The problem is I can not see any relays or anything between these two points that could be causing the problem. Could anybody shed some more light on this problem? Or even explain how the glow plug circuit works?
I think it could be time for trip to the auto electrician
Thanks
Jim

Jim,
I've been checking on my old patrol diagram (it is common for a given manufacturer to use similar principles for various models), but it appears that if the ign sw is off, then the glow control unit is isolated; ie, should be dead. If the glow relay was stuck, you would be drawing lots more amps than 2A thru the glow plugs, like 50A or more.
It is possible that there is a fault in the ignition sw on the glow circuit, and the control unit is not being switched off. Locate the glow module, about 100mm square (in the patrol, it was located behind the side panel to the right of the drivers right foot). When the ignition is switched off, there should be no volts on any connection on that module.
This module controls the switching on/off of the glow relay, the time glow is on, and also has a water temp sensor which determines whether the glow needs to be on.

Thanks Gerry I think you have hit the nail on the head.
There is a box behind a panel just above the accelerator but it is impossible to get at without pulling half the dash apart. But that wire has to go somewhere and that will be it.
Cheers
