Hello all,
I have a pop top viscount 1981 and I find it hard to get the top up by myself.I have been using a car jack with a piece of timber 40cmx60cm up against the roof but I can only get it up 30cm and it needs to go up 45cm.
Any suggestions on how to make it easier to raise the roof by myself?
Also I have found that the interior lights do not work on battery pwer from car,How can I determine how to figure if it is the car or the van with the problem?

Thanks Carol

Ps.I got the frodge working on gas,and thanks to all who gave information, all very helpfull.turned the stove and oven on and the fridge then lite stright away.

dont forget to keep the door open to push air outside when you pull the roof down

Check that the lift mechanism isnt gummed up as that will make it hard to lift.

Dont use the fridge on gas whilst travelling.

G"day Carol,
to determine if the 12 volt in the van is working, with my old millard ,i opened up the flat 7 pin plug on the van end and got a 12 volt battery ran a short piece of wire to black auxiliary wire in plug from positive on battery and then put a short piece of wire from battery negative and held it on the a frame. and when the 12 volt switch was turned on "tad-ah" there was light.
It worked for me, hope it can help you.
Cheers John.

Hi Carol, if your Viscouint is like mine it will have circular tube scissor lifters. The springs in these get "tired", I replaced mine with flat metal scissor lifts (approx 950mm long) from Camec and the problem was solved. Alternatively , you could instal some supplementary gas struts , say along the sides, to help with the lift.
