I am trying to locate a film called.."To Fight The Wild" ,made in the 80's. This is
based on a book of the same name that recreates the experience of one Rod Ansell, who believed he was the original Crocodile Dundee. Rod was marooned in the Fitzmaurice River & the book tells of his experience. It is co written by Rachel
Percy. I believe a film of this saga was made starring Rod as himself & I would
much like to obtain a copy if available. The book is a great read. An even better
read is the book written by his wife..Joanne Van Os..that chronicles their life
together in the NT...Outback Heart. Read them in that order for the best insight.
I have trawled google & can only come up with a couple of references to the film
in reviews of the book. I believe the name of the film maker ,a WA lady, is in
Joannes book ,& am awaiting the book to confirm this. Any leads will be most
appreciated. You will also enjoy these books if the history of the NT is your
thing...cheers....oldbaz.

Yes, it seems she wrote the screenplay. I have checked the site you gave me but
it offers little more than I know. Am now checking on an ABC cameraman that may have been involved. Thanks for your help......oldbaz.

Saw the film as a TV Doco.

Quite some time now, however as I recall he managed to overturn a tinny way up river in non inhabited country. Got himself to the bank with a knife, rifle and a limited number of ammunition rounds.

Sat up in a tree for a couple of nights to avoid the crocadators. As mentioned shot a bull, drank it's blood and used the scrotum as a carry all. I recall he extracted the projectile from a round, held in a tight loop of his heavy leather belt and stuck the primer to start a fire.

Was pretty well on the way out when he got picked up by an aboriginal stock man who went ouy of his way to investigate smoke from his fire.

Returned to town and ran into his sometime girlfriend who had not known he was missing.

Book written, film made and he got a bit of money out of it. If I recall correctly he took up a property to run cattle, eventually went broke and walked away from the place.

He reputedly had psychological problems which were acerbated by conviction that Paul Hogan prospered by trading on his experience. He eventually went quite psycho and died in a shoot out with Police.

The movie/doco was a good watch though I reckon there was quite a bit of license taken. It was sort off along the lines of the old Albie Mangels come Malcolm Douglas Style.

That is pretty much the story Ian. Rods book gives an account of his incident
on the Fitzmaurice, & Joannes book is about their life together. Both are good
reads . I'm still chasing the film. cheers.....Oldbaz.
