I have just lifted my 4wd (suppose to be 50ml) got roughly 40 ml front and back. (
suspension not a body lift) I now have a squeak every now and then sounds like like a metal type squeak definitely not a rattle. It seems to be more under very gentle acceleration around the 30/40k mark, if I back off it stops if I accelerate firmer it stops. It comes and goes Its driving me nuts. I have checked under the vehicle for the last week looking for tell tale signs but cant see any. At first I thought maybe the exhaust where it joins under near the drivers
seat, sprayed with wd40 to see if it stopped, no, some one said possibly front drive shaft/uni as it would now be at a different angle ?? Would this be possible, it has coil/strut front end and coil/shocks in the rear. I have jumped up and down on the bullbar, side steps, shook the crapper out of it,rocked it, wont do it. Can drive for a week like last week no squeak, today doing it all day. I cant pinpoint whether its the front or back. Even had my neighbour sitting on bullbar driving up my street at around 30k (dangerous I know) to try and pinpoint whether its coming from the front or back, couldn't tell and its diesel so harder for him to tell from outside due to engine noise but turning the engine off and rolling it doesn't do it, needs to be under gentle throttle. I'm more concerned it might be rubbing on some thing important but cant find it. I have returned it to where the job was done but as usual wouldn't make the noise. I'm not sure whether this has any thing to do with the lift but it wasn't doing it before never had any unusual noises or squeaks........Any suggestions, possible drive shaft a good starting point ???? Thankyou

I understand your frustration only too
well. It could be the drive shaft as the angle would now have changed. Try engaging 4wd if that makes a difference.
Do you have free wheeling hubs?
I have had a squeal in the front of the rodeo. After a process of elimination I found that the ends of the drive shaft were dry, some grease and noise has gone.
Good luck. Dave

I also heard the drive shaft touches on the fuel
tank. Look at the practical side movement is causing the squeak so stop put hand brake on listen for squeak the drive shaft wont turn so get under the drive shaft use a cardboard to find the closest point get hammer dent it in slightly noise will stop after you drive. saw this on another site, only passing on hope you have success. I spoke to a ARB fitter he said that some springs say 50mm could lift to 75 mm or 40mm they dont all give exact lift.
Cheers.

Hi there myprado, no definately no more then a 42 ml lift to be exact, have had the same
suspension in previous vehicle only difference this one is diesel. Tailshaft no where near the reserve
tank have checked that. Am pulling the front
wheels off in a minute to check around to see if I can notice anything. I have heard of the shafts hiting on the reserve
tank but this has only ever been noticed with a 60ml lift or more or when flexing off road. Thankyou for the reply.............

Kimba,
Some more info please?
What sort of car?
Doing a 40mm lift, did you put in swaybar extenders?
Brake line extenders?
How is the steering? Light? Heavy?
Let me know.

Hi there Gavin, its a 01 prado (90 series) turbo diesel. I have had the exact same model before only this one is diesel and had the exact same
suspension in previous vehicle. Heaps of length in brake lines etc. Its squeakig just driving around town, as above, under gentle throttle, take it over the rough stuff or bad pot holed road and it wont make a noise only under slight acceleration. Might sound stupid but with it relateing to been under throttle Im going to also check idler bearing ?? who knows.......Thankyou for the reply.........

Thanks for the extra info. Does it make the same squeak when revving the motor while standing still, or only under load?
My only other thought is the driveshaft as the angle has changed. Do they have greasable joints in the shaft or are they a sealed unit? Something to check. Other than that, I'm not sure what it could be.

Na mate, its only when driving along at roughly 30/40k under gentle throttle, accelerate hard it stops, take foot off throttle it stops, do 30/40k turn engine off no noise, its like the torque of the motor obviously flexs a tad so Im going to have another look at the exhaust tomorrow where it goes over the diff and near the rear shocks maybe might be touching possibly with the bigger shocks ?? Engine mount seems fine, I think they have knocked some thing when putting in
suspension.Only guessing at the moment.............Thankyou

Na mate just the usual rubber on top and bottom of shocks. Its more of a metal to metal sound rubbing together. Have just pulled off the front
wheels today to get the discs machined, checked all the backing plates etc thought maybe they might have bent one fitting the struts. Going to pull the back
wheels off tomorrow to also check exhaust etc, didnt make the noise today ?? One of those things will drive me nuts till I track it down. Nothing compared to the job that was done with
snorkel thats another story, thank god I havent been through
water would have sucked a gutfull in, have sent email off to head office, the more I looked the more I found, second bash plate pushed in when they have decided to jack it up under the bash plate and pushed it onto the front diff so thats stuffed to grrrrr ..............

Hi
Have had two problems with intermittent squeaks after vehicle work.
One was a universal joint that had dried out and the changed operating conditions moved the rust to anew spot just befor it let go.
the second was a wheel bearing that was possibly overtightened pushed out (and coooked) the grease and the squeak was metal to metal noise just befoe the wheel fell off. Both were not very loud noises.
regards
A
