Just sitting at home and wondering if anyone of you people out there would know if Lake Eyer was to get more
water next year if it would over flow and where it would go

Hi Feathery
It doesn't overflow. Just backs up along the
Cooper Creek and other channels and spreads out more

Irrespective of whether inflows to the south basin fill up the north basin or the north basin fills up the south basin - depending on where the inflows originate from - Lake Eyre is a terminal wetland

A quick glance at my maps show the whole area to be very lowwith inflows into it from all directions. I guess maybe if it really filled it could drain into spencer gulf
- but we would be gathering the animals 2 by 2
well before then
Lake Bonnderoo in WA is another terminal wetland being fed from the lakes sth of
leonora via Ponton
creek
it has filled twice this century
the first time was in the mid 70s and the second time was the mid 90s
maps prior to this showed it as barely a small unnamed salt pan but when full it creates a large inland
freshwater lake

As Lake Eyre is the lowest point in Australia (15m below sea level) it simply can't overflow, it just gets deeper until the
water stops then evaporates
