Just spent an overnighter at the Smoky Bay caravan park 40kms below Ceduna. Clean as a whistle, not a weed to be seen and the ammenities block was clinically clean with everything working. A credit to Mark & Vicki for their efforts. Oh yes, fresh oysters from the bay available at reception.
A worthwhile deviation if you are heading across "the paddock".

Cheers John

hi, after reading the good things about Smoky Bay we have decided to go there for about 5 nights later this week as we are in the area, anyway noticed you seem to do a bit of fishing, is there any Salmon- surf beaches around the area, the salmon you mentioned was it a salmon trout or a grown one?, thanks from chris.

G'day Chris, Firstly my Apology. I must have been on drugs or something as i was actually talking about Fowlers Bay, I get them 2 mixed up. Salmon was Salmon trout from the Jetty with the big Salmon being found at the beach just over the sand dunes that come to the edge of town. CP hosts ( New Owners ) give you a map showing 6 great Salmon fishing spots in the local area, Lots of fish being caught up there by all reports. A hidden Gem of a spot.
I have yet to stop in Smoky Bay but dont doubt the accolades for the area as the whole west coast of Eyre Peninsula has some of the best beach fishing available in S.A.. Contact the Smoky Bay CP hosts for a local area rundown.

Isn't it a great spot - absolutely spotless. We try and go each year - spent a couple of weeks there in March chasing King George Whiting again. Please don't tell anyone about it though - everyone will want to go there!
Shame about the oysters being so delicious and so cheap!!

Spent a couple of nights there in early Jul 09 - great park, no weeds (but no grass either:-)), great people running the place, superb oysters at the right price, and dinner up at the nearby local club was also pretty damn good. Unfortunately on our last morning at around 5 am in come a 100kph wind storm and give us a bit of curry. Fortunately - the mighty Oztent took the hammering well with only a small tear in the fly. Would I go back - damn right I will and for longer next time.
