Howdy folks. I'm looking at buying a radio for my jayco camper.Would it be better to go for a good car radio type and install it in the van with a decent
aerial rather than a portable radio. I realise the reception depends on signal
strengh so I was thinking maybe the car radio type may be the way to go
any ideas Thanks

Yep,
Go for a reasonable quality car radio with all the bells and whistles(CD, MP3, etc) and a top of the range external aerial.
A normal portable radio may have trouble receiving a signal through the campervan/caravan walls in some areas.

Hope this helps.

skeety46

here are some pics on how mine is set up with the radio and aerial.
the radio is located in the usual position and the aerial is mounted behind the upright cupboard.when the cupboard is upright the aerial (which is a power one) extends up behind the cupboard when the radio is turned on.then when the radio is turned off it retracts back down into the space underneath.Image Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be Found

Neat workmanship there Mark. Would be interested to know what other improvements you have done in your Swan. Have you considered a motorised wind up mechanism at all, and if so any advice there would be appreciated. My back problems are leading me down the track of changing vans, but would love to keep the Swan if possible. Does your radio suit ipod etc, cheers....

Mark
Well it's like this................
Once upon a time a little boy was born in Adelaide, as he grew up his Dad bought a windup Gramaphone and the little boy played disc's on it, then as he got into his Teens hid bought a reel to reel tape so he recorded blokes like J.O.K, Elvis and Buddy Holly and played the music, then after he got married he had a Casette Recorder, then an 8 Track casette, so he still played the music now in the car, then along came CD's ....by this time he's gone bloody grey but he got one ....and played the music, and then...and then ...along came Computers, of course this made him go greyer but not bald, and then he found in shops these little Flash Drives so with a lot of patience he comverted all his CD's and some very ancient Casettes into MP3's , bought a Car Radio that has a USB port , loaded his MP3's onto the Flash Drive , inserts it into the USB port ....and yes you guessed it , the silly old bugger still plays J.O.K, Elvis and Buddy Holly MP3's on the Car Radio...and he's still not Bald.

the only time i listen to the radio is occasionally listen to the talk back shows and the News............unless they bring those programs out on CD.......no need to replace the radio is there?
