Hiyall,

Following an electrical issue resulting in fuses blowing etc, the auto electrician has returned my 1989 HJ75 Landcruiser tray in good condition except the diesel engine will not turn off.

We can do it by opening the bonnet and flicking an arm there.

The sparky didn't want to know about it, Toyota is not looking like it has the knowledge base in their workshops, Guests were also reticent, does anyone know a good 4WD auto sparky in Melbourne or surrounds who might be able to help?

So I'm guessing the fuel cut off solenoid isn't working or disconected.
Shouldn't be that hard to track down start looking around the fuel pump for wires and trace it back see if it's live or dead when ignition on and off.

Cheers.

Being a 1989 HJ75 your truck will have a 2H engine which uses an EDIC (Electronic Diesel Injection Control) electric motor to physically move the "rack" from the run to the stop position, no stop solenoid as it has an inline mechanical injection pump which looks like a tiny six cylinder engine on the side of the donk between the alternator and the engine block. When you turn the engine on the edic motor will push the rod from the stop position to the run position, if it is cold it will push it a tad further to the start position.
There is a bunch of relays and wiring behind the glovebox which operate it but basically it is just a motor which drives a little gearbox to move the arm/rod into the appropriate position depending on where the ignition switch is.
Any good autolecky should be able to fix it, sounds like the one you have been to has buggered something up, take it back and if he won't fix it demand a refund.
Definately an electrical type problem.

HI
The question is did he find what was blowing the fuse & which fuse was it??There probably is a common factor .
The fuel injection motor is actually controlled by the electronic control module
Which is usually located behind the bottom side panel ,just in front of passenger side door
I would expect that the link arm to the injector pump is connected?.

Does it move at all??

Hiyall

The copuntry sparky told me he hadn't fixed it and didn't have the resouce there t do it. The electrical issue was an old immobiliser (from a previous owner, now disconnected.

Great answers tho and I can take to an auto sparky, but now, that's what I want. A melbourne based one with some old 4WD savvy.

Anyone know one?

Just remove the rod off the EDIC unit and fit a stop cable instead. I did it years ago and it worked well, never had to worry about it again.

Route it from beside the steering wheel on the dash somewhere around to the radiator and loop it back towards the motor so it pulls the right way...problem solved.
If you get a heavy rod type rather than a cable type, you can adjust it so if you push it when cranking the engine it will go into the overfuel setting (like the old EDIC) to assist in starting but in general they will start fine anyway. When you let go it will naturally return to the normal run position and just pull it to stop the engine.

Cheers
