Hi All,
We are wanting to make / add a Safari Roof to our camper. Just wondering if anyone has done this before?
By Safari Roof I mean - A shaped tarp or canvas that goes over the "tent" part of the camper, but is raised (with probaly flexible tent poles) off the tent to create an air pocket.
I have seen a couple of newer soft top campers come out with them, and want to try and get one made or make one ourselves to clip onto the existing tiedown points on the camper that would normally be used as guy rope points.
I have approached the local canvas
shop here but he said it would cost me a fortune for him to do it as he has never made one before and it would take alot of hours mucking around to get it right (for which he would definantly charge me for).

Hi Rusty,
Here is a pic of the thermal fly on my Camprite and my mates Camprite. It works exceedingly
well, makes a huge difference in both hot and cold weather and I would not be without it. It is simply made from reflective insulation and sewn together in the correct shape. To use, it is simply thrown over the camper and tied down, no need for an air gap as this is already built into the insulation.
Cheers
Captain

G’day Captain,
Wondering if you could give me an idea of the price you paid. I got a price recently on having one custom made for my camper, made out of, what looks like the same material as yours. The price quoted seemed very expensive.
Thanks,
Myles.

I think they retail for around $420, but I got
mine for a bit less when I got my Camprite.
Cheers

Thanks Captain,
I was quoted $700.00….. now I know it’s worth getting another price.
Cheers,
Myles.

I use a suitably sized silver tarp. Takes 5 min to pull over & tie down with oco
straps. When you fold it to the centre it is easy to use. To create the air gap
you speak of requires extended poles & riser bars, & while possible will be
a pain to put on & require you to carry more gear. If you allow extra all around
this assists in diverting
water away from your camper. We use the tarp most
nights as it also prevents wet pack ups & staining.....oldbaz.
