Hayman reese weight distribution hitch,Treg coupling,Coromal 535 XC Capri

Can I use a Hayman hitch with a treg coupling on my Coromal 535 which is fitted with a treg coupling. At the moment it has a set of 4 level rider and a home made towbar attachment that came with the van.

I think it would defeat the purpose of the treg if you did.

The treg is designed to give flexibility and articulation. If you use a Hayman reeese load levellers they will prevent that articulation to a great extent.

I had an orac on my golf offroad camper. This was okay with my patrol but when I traded it on a territory I had to use a wdh. Yes, this did defeat the purpose of the orac but I was not likely to take the rig to places where it was required with the territory.

If you are mainly on formed roads, with some dips and undulations then the wdh is no hindrance. You can take the bars off when you get to the rough stuff if the hitch point doesnt drop too far and you are not travelling too fast.

The "homemade" bit is scarey.....I would get that sorted out whatever it is, and get something engineered.

I tow a Coromal Seka 535 offroad 4x4WD wheel model fitted with a Treg coupling and always use a Hayman hitch, even though I dont think I need to because the rig is very stable without it.
Its just greater peace of mind in case I get into an emergency situation on-road. I sometimes take the hitch off when in really soft sand or need unusual articulation through very steep creeks etc.

Ok just another idea I was going to fit those air bags that go into the coil springs as my Nissan sags approx 50mm with the van on but if I fitted a WDH would that stop the sag

carlj,

Yes you can and you should use a HR WDH in conjunction with the treg coupling particularly for the weight transfer back to the front wheels.

Of course if you intend to go into an area where the articulation of the Treg will be required you remove the WDH beforehand. The benefits of the WDH etc should not be required when travelling at "walking pace".

I have a Coromal Capri 535 Pioneer XC.

Jim

I have both on 100series and the wd system puts weight back to the steer wheels where the air bags only lift the rear and don't put weight back to the steer wheels so go for the weight distribution over the airbags.

Gidday Carl,

I used to tow a Coromal PS546 tandem off roader with my Prado.

We had Polyairs (18psi) and the WDH fitted while using the Treg. IMO the combination worked well, and the setup was quite stable. When we went into off road situations, I would remove the bars. This is where the Polyairs reduced any sag in the suspension.

You may find you'll need to fit an adapter plate between the Treg and the HR receiver to prevent the Treg from rotating. I bought mine from Barnes Caravans at Lansvale. It needed some mods (welding etc) but their customer service (for such a small job) was excellent.

Good luck!
