I am replacing my 12v caravan TV with a new Kogan TV.

The old Orion TV had both 12V & 240v power leads. In the Orion manual is says "Approx. 36W at 240V/DC 12V; 10W at 240V standby."). I can't see the Orion power adaptor - it is in the wall somewhere.

The Kogan uses a single 240-12v adaptor which says ("240V Input 50/60Hz, 1.5A; Output 12V-5.0A).

Question - can I use the old Orion 12V lead to power my new Kogan TV or will it blow up? This is my preference because I can plug my new Kogan into the 240v power and it changes it to 12v but if I am camping with no 240 power, I have a problem.

Any advice would be appreciated. As you can swee, I am not an electrical expert!

You probably can! Do it at your own risk!

I have mine connected via a made up 12 volt lead and have been running it like that for a year or two.

I run it off the battery or off the 12 volt power supply. I never use the 240 to 12 volt converter. Simply that way.

You just need to make sure that the 12 volt lead will carry enough power without voltage drop.

Geofff,
Your kogan Tv sounds similar to mine = 12v with an adaptor for 240v.?? I purchased a 12v lead with a cigarette lighter plug from Kogan Think about $17.00. If you havn't a cig plug in your van a goodish one is about $10.00 plus a FUSE holder. Always handy to have as well. Hope your Kogan is as good mine.
Regards Mike.

One of those can size 150 watt inverters would do the job - I think.

Cheers

Geofff,

Just bought a Kogan combo myself & am very happy with it

Do yourself a favour, spend the $17 and buy the lead that they sell. Its been tested and known to work.

Cheers,

Cruiser
