Gunbarrel Highway

Just got off the Gunbarrel and has been some big storms East of Mungilli, up to 2 feet of water across road in places. Would recommend waiting a few days to dry out before attempting. On the positive side the wildflowers are looking good and will only improve. on the downside there is still the minority who dump their rubbish. We carted out 3 x 44's of empty cans and stubbies.

forgot to mention the hand pump at Beadells was beyond repair so have removed it at this stage, hope to reinstall it at another bore that isn't so deep in the future. Bores at Thyptomene Hill and Beadells Tree still good as is Geraldton Historical Bore.

We tried to repair that pump in October last year but our resources were just too limited. Had I been home in my workshop it would have been a cinch.

was the second time i have worked on this pump. the hand pumps are designed for 30m and this one was 51m. the effort of swinging on the handle was breaking the join between rods. was going to originally replace rod but it seems the pump at the bottom may have come off now and didn't have the gear to pull the column.
totally agree jobs are a cinch at home when you have everything you need, just a little bit awkward in middle of nowhere with limited resources.

Hi Ricochet
Sounds like you have done a great job, well done. Do not speak to me about rubbish in the desert, it is my pet hate, as well as people not burning their toilet paper.

Cheers

Stephen

Not just in the deserts Stephen... also along the major highways.Adelaide to Melbourne and Port Augusta to Alice.

A large percentage of that rubbish being non descript plastic bottles filled with yellow fluid. As a licenced heavy vehicle operator....this practice disgusts me and does nothing to prevent our reputation becoming tarnished.

Stop, revive, survive and beautify.....that's my motto and I'm sticking to it.
Fab.
