We are planning a trip for next winter & looking at accessing the Surveyer Generals Corner.
Is this a hard section of Australia to get access to?
We are looking at coming in from Giles then heading South East on the Mount Davies Road onto Anne Beadell HWY. Is there fuel between Giles & Coober Pedy?
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
David

Hi David

Permits will need to be sought well ahead of time, as they can take several weeks. Follow the permits hyperlink for further information.

Extract: Surveyor-Generals Corner
Permits for Surveyor-General’s Corner are $100 per vehicle plus $20 per person, but you do get an escort/guide to take you out there and tell you a bit about the history of the Corner.

David,

you will need additional permits to travel the Mount Davies Road south of Wingellina. These are not issues through DIA (Unless things have changed this year). The only way I've heard of you being able to do the Mount Davies Road is by using a local "guide" and tour company as a tag along. These are notoriously hard to organise.

Cheers Mick

Usual access is a day trip only from Giles and return, pickup a "guide" and pay fee's mentioned above along the way.

Or just go anyway. I've spent a fair bit of time out in that country working and if you know your way about no-one takes any notice of you as long as you don't look too much like a tourist.

We did this in mid July this year, cost was $20 per person & $50 per 4WD to see the corner with a Guide.

Signman,
My sentiments EXACTLY!!!!!

As much as I would like to visit there, I simply refuse to pay fees to visit what is otherwise just baron waste land..... I mean they don't grow crops or anything there, so they only want to charge you money so they can buy grog etc.

I wonder if those who "own" that land (they don't really "own" the land as such and even admit as much... if fact they say that the land owns them or some such BS), would be prepared to pay a fee to visit Adelaide etc.

They talk about discrimination, then prevent 99% or Australians from visiting this open, unfenced, "unloved" area.

It gets on my goat.
