Gday...

Are you actually using one of these??

We are thinking of installing one of these filters to the van. There is a bracket that attaches to the outside of the van to which the Happy Camper Filter attaches.

What areas have/do you travel in and how effective are they?

Do you think they have been worth the outlay? For double filter + 2 cartridges + bracket + handle for changing filters it comes to around $350.

Hi julie & John
I made up my own filter, only a single filter with a Carbon ( or charcoal ), and only used it when the water looked a little suspect.
You can buy a basic single filter fith a carbon filter on ebay for about $70.

Hi J&J. I bought a very similar looking twin filter system from BigW for $95.00. It came with the filter cartridges and tube fitting kit. Downside is the replacement filter cartridges are around $55.00 for the pair. Regards,Bob

I've never had or used a water filter in many years of working and touring in the outback and haven't ever had any problems. Sure sometimes the taste is not great but I don't think a filter would make any difference. I always boil it and never drink it if the source is suspect. JMHO.

I’ve been using a similar system for a few years for outback water purification. It’s worked a treat. The canisters are only about 2/3 the height of yours though and it was only about $120 including a pre-filter and a .05 micron filter, (good for several thousand litres). As most of my water is taken out of any source I can beat the camels too, it’s necessary. I’d ask the question is it necessary for you to spend the $400 given that most water you’ll be exposed to in everyday carravanning would be fit for human consumption (obviously different if you're spending a lot of time in remote areas). $400 buys a lot of 20 litre containers if you need a bit of extra water for an isolated stay! The other thing is pressure. I’d imagine it will rely mainly on mains pressure when connected at parks etc. I’ve found that the flow rate will be very slow if relying on a DC pump like a flojet or sureflo.

Cheers Mick

Hi Julie, check out this site.

We use the white one which connects to our hose so can fill the tanks with filtered water or just connect to mains pressure when in van parks. Approximately $110.00

We find them great, convenient to order online as well. They are good for 5000 litres or so and then need to be replaced.

Cheers
