Well after battling high winds and heavy rain we arrived in BH.
We are here for three weeks then off to Bunbury.
So far I have had a quick look at the Mad Max site just past
Silverton and have ridden the bike around BH.
We visited in 1989 and it does not appear to have changed much.
Diesel is around $1.33 and beer prices at the Barrier Social Democtatic Club are the best I have seen for a while.
If anyone is passing through and would like a coffee give me a yell.

Boobook
We were here in 1989 for 2 weeks and did not see every thing we wanted to.
This time my wife is working with the RFDS and I have to amuse myself.
Today I will be doing some more sight seeing. Iam going to the 'living desert
park',,,, at least I think thats its name. Although first stop is the
tourist info centre then ring an explore oz memeber that lives in BH.

Hey Boobook,
Have you ever been there?
The thing about the
Hill is that it is not considered by the locals to be a tourist town. It's a mining town and the locals kind of tolerate tourists. That attitude is changing but it is taking time.
As a result the tourist attractions are not always prominent or easy to find.
Gone bush makes a few suggestions below and I would endorse all of them. In addition to these there are many many others. The photo museum on the southern side of the Line of Load is fascinating and will consume a half day easily.
When I lived in BH I was part of a church group that ran a 1 week program for visitors. We gave them a taste of the town spending the entire time travelling from place to place looking at various attractions. Often guests would stay on for another week or two to have a better look and others would come back to have a longer more leisurely stay.
When I hear of people going to BH for a holiday I always suggest a minimum of two weeks. If you like I can draw up an itinery to fill that two weeks and leave you exhausted. It really is a minimum.

Oops, don't know what happened there.
Yep been there a few times. Hower the last time we felt the city was dying. There are quite a few pubs that have closed down or on their last legs. The
Mine visit is now closed ( heard it is health and safety). With the
population in constant rapid decline it is like watching the formation of a Ghost town IMO.
Granted
Menindee is very interesting though.

Travel over to
Menindee Lakes while you are there. Only about 100km - would make a good day trip.

Are you planning on visiting
Menindee Lakes? I have never been there myself but my Mum grew up in BH and always talks about
Menindee.
If you are looking for something to see, i recomend the miners
memorial on top of the skimp dumps. Its quite a moving experience. You can have lunch at the Cafe there as
well. If you're interested in it - you used to be able to go down into the
mine, not too sure if you still can.
Also, go out and see the sculptures - especially at sunset.
Views are spectacular if you get an awesome sunset.
If you go back out to
Silverton, the art galleries are something else. We spent hours there last time and had a cold one at the pub at lunch time. And Pro Hart's gallery is aparently interesting as
well (have never been but have been told). We are not usually in to the art scene, so for even my dad to enjoy himself, it is definantly interesting to see.
The duck ponds are a nice spot for lunch too if you want something different from the red dirt. Be careful of the geese but - they bite! ha ha.
The meals at the Demo are nice too. And quite reasonable. And if you run into a "Pritchard" there - Its probably my Grandparents or Cousins. My name is Adrienne.

There is plenty of good 4x4 country in the area Robin but it is all on private property.
If you can gain the confidence of landholders, there is a lot of fun to be had. But it is not easy to find or get access to and almost impossible if you don't have an introduction.

Spent a week there about 5 yrs ago and loved it. So many different things to do and see.
For those interested in art, BH has more galleries per head of
population than any other town/city in Oz.
Stayed at a wonderful B&B, a converted hotel, Kenloch or something similar.
Behind only
Darwin,
Alice Springs and
Cairns as my favourite city visited in Oz
