Looking at installing a reversing camera on the vehicle, and may as well go GPS while I'm at it.
Checking out eBay, there appears to be a few with 7" screens for around $240.00.
Any one out there purchased and are using such a device??
Another 'must' is the ability to install extra navigation software (read: OziExplorer)..and room for heaps of digital maps.
Oh..and a reasonable Street Direction supplied package would be good !!
Any good ones and/or bad ones out there??
Many thanks in advance..

Do you mean one screen for both functions signman? Are you looking at a reversing camera on vehicle, or a rear view camera on caravan? If the latter, one screen for both would not be a good idea.

Yes, one screen for both apps. ie Reverse Camera AND GPS.

Next question Signman: Do you want to use a camera for rear view while travelling (note the focus of these is different to one for seeing only at close range when reversing)? If you want to see behind with a camera while travelling, and want to use a GPS, i would choose separate screens, unless they can operate on a split screen to monitor both clearly simultaneously.

I bought one of these, very simple to set up and works well with Oziexplorer, swaps to rearview camera automatically when you stick the vehicle in reverse.
Came with IGO which is one of the best street nav programs.
Seller is good to deal with too, based in Melbourne ebay au auction 320551267250 or he also has them without the camera for $40 less.

I forgot to add that I've used up to 16gig SD cards, suspect it will take up to 32gig. All you need is the maps and Ozi CE onto the SD card.

Not good if you want a van cam for rearview when going forward though

But by a dual power setup can be made to do both as mine do

Hi Graham

Yes, and as aforesaid, dual purpose screen OK for reversing camera, but not for rear view camera unless you only want to look at the GPS to find out where you are lost. Different cameras for the different purposes too. We use a camera for rear view, not reversing, although it is of some assistance to help prevent you backing into a large tree LOL, although we abandoned using the camera on dusty roads as the cloud of dust behind the caravan obscured the vision anyway.

Hiya Peter
Thanks for the feedback on that item. That was the vendor I had been looking at on eBay.
That's what I am after- a reversing camera with GPS...(not necessarily a 'rear view' setup).
Would it be possible for you (Peter) to contact me 'off forum' if I need to pick your brain in setting the system up???
My email: fsp@tsn.cc

You won't get good quality for that price in a dual system, you'd be better off getting a good GPS and a good camera system , I got mine from Derek of ABR about 2 and half years ago , it works fine, the kit had 2 cams , 1 for the car and 1 for the van

Sorry Doug it has a better pic than two brand name systems installed at great expense in two buses that I drive and the actual GPS side of it has a faster processer and more memory than most dedicated sytems as well as Igo which is one of the better nav systems, far better than the proprietry installed in the big names. I bought one after a friend bought one as it worked so well plus the bigger screen.

I fitted a combo unit from Brash Imports. It's a double DIN unit with all the bells and whistles including IGO8 navigation using the Sensys maps. These maps are on a 2gb SD card and I have loaded Oziexplorer CE onto an 8gb card. Rear camera and parking sensors are also included. These are a good quality unit for only $900. We have just completed a 20k KLM trip through SA, NT and WA over some very rough roads and it never missed abeat.
Check it out for your self on Brash Imports

Cheers
