Here is the best advice possible.
Take it to TOYOTA.
The tranny has to be serviced in a certain way and with the absolute correct oil
EG they fill it a certain way and then run it to warm it and
check levels and pressures with a laptop.
I took
mine to a tranny expert in
Adelaide fooishly following a mechanics advice.
They put Transmax in it instead of the World Series oil it supposed to have.
It didnt feel right and when I got back to Coffs Via
Brisbane I took it to Toyota who flushed it out and put the correct stuff in it.
Also found they had pinched an O ring when reassambling it which allowed air in and made it grab.
All this cost $580 as they had to use about 12 litres of oil to flush it..
The box supposedly holds 3.5lt and the guy in
Adelaide charged me for 5 lt
Dont know how he got that in but reckoned he did.
I demanded and got my money back off him but am still out of pocket
If the plug has got WS stamped on it thats what it has to have. NOTHING ELSE.
Hope this makes up your mind.
Strictly speaking they are sealed for life but
mine was a bit dirty from a lot of towing.
I would have been better leaving it alone actually
Cheers

that is good advice Graham.
The A750F shouldnt need to be changed unless overheated or leaking.
But regarding quantity Im pretty sure its about 6 litres for a "service fill" and 12 or 15 for a dry fill, which is draining the torque convertor also.
Cant find where those figures are now but the A442 4sp is 6 and 15 dryfill.
I saw a mob advertising replacement valve bodies for the A750F to make them change more crisply, I wonder what they go like?
Wont be mucking around with
mine though, at 200K its still smooth as.

Toyota said its 3.5lt for a drain and fill and thats what the handbook says also.
About 5-6 if Torque converter is drained which it should be but often isnt.
I got charged for 12 lt for the flush and replace.
AS u say it shouldnt need doing but I asked the guy who did the engine oil change to
check it and he reckoned it was a bit dirty
I reckon it was his finger that was dirty and he was drumming up business for his mate.
Ended up his mate got nothing at all except a bad name.
I would not go anywhere but Toyota for the tranny service as it says in the handbook
"If the drainplug has WS stamped on it that oil MUST be used"
I now believe them.

There's just one answer - no second choice
.....BOB FLOOD Automatics
.....unit 2 / 514
Guildford Road
.....BAYSWATER WA
.....9377 3446
He changed over my Tranny to a modified type/model Tranny that's much more 'drivable' for my use and he keeps this Auto in peak operating condition.
I willingly drive up from
Busselton to
Perth (210 Klm) for the service.
I believe he also does all sorts of Auto trans work including modifying them for drag cars etc
Is a family run business, you deal with the man who works on your tranny
Matter of fact, I had a problem with the transmission when I was up in
Broome some years ago, I phoned Bob, he said sit down and make a coffee, he organised a local Auto trans guy in
Broome to do the work - at no cost to me :-)
Was not relevant to any fault that could be attributed to any previous work, he phoned me to
check on the work and told me to come in see him when I got back to
Perth, he put vehicle up on his hoist to
check the work for me, now that IS "service"
No affiliation etc.
Just a totally satisfied customer

Mainey-just to make sure we are on the same page, he took out the A750F and put in another type of tranny?
Out of curiousity what was wrong with it?
Personally I have never heard of an A750F failing (this isnt to say that they dont of course) and if I recall correctly I posted a thread on here last year asking if anyone HAD suffered an issue and got no responses.

OK-so it wasnt an A750F 5 speed as Andrew was asking about.
They are quite complex, expensive and strong boxes which as Graham found out, are best serviced by Toyota unless someone has special knowlegde of them. Im not a big fan of Toyotas service dept's but in this case agree 100% with Graham.
Wouldnt let any else touch
mine as at least if the screw it up, they have no excuse, and DEFINITELY no other ATF.

the original post asked: "I'm looking for a transmission place in

I gave my recommendation, however, I would not be surprised one little bit if the Toyota dealership sent the vehicle out to be worked on by a "qualified" auto gearbox specialist, *unless* the "service" required is just changing oil and filters ?
I've sent 2 x Benz's there for adjustments as
well as my Toyota, I've seen the specialist transmissions there for performance vehicles, so yes I have the faith in Bob's expertise.

Well if he has the right
tools and the correct oil perhaps.
Nobody other than Toyota have the WS oil as far as I could find out and thats whats recommended for the 5spd.
A place in
Melbourne called Wholesale Automatics does the mods to most trannies but even they can be wrong as they told me the top pipe was the out pipe to the oil cooler and that was where to fit a sensor for a temp gauge.
Fortunately I checked and found its the bottom pipe thats the out one.
So you see not all are perfect.
iS yours a 4spd auto or a 5sp auto Mainey

Is now a Borgwarner box with 4 speed plus overdrive, was an Asianwarner box.
The lock-up torque converter fins have been 'curved' at the ends to give more positive performance, now drives more like a manual control box

Ok but the 750F Toyota boxes as I said require special oil and no one else but Toyota seems to have it.
Transmax is supposed to be able to be used but even Castrol say not ot if the box is WS specified So expert or not Toyota is the place to take it..
Obviously your modem is still going OK Bought one for my boy the other day $120 at HN on special

What I really want is someone who knows the transmission
well enough to know if it has something wrong with it or not. A toyota dealer will ust charge me heaps and tell me it's fine. I don't trust dealerships.
Mine drives ok but I recon(or it feels like) the tourque converter isn't doing the job properly...
It may be just the way it is on all of them but with
mine, it seems to labour a lot once in top gear and is doesn't drop back easily without realing pressing the foot into it...annoying and doesn't seem right.
It changes up quickly even under steady load up hills making the revs drop and the engine feel like it's working hard...don't like it.

Symptoms of incorrect oil will cause that
Take it to Toyota and see if someone has done a bodgy job on it and put transmax in it Which is a clear oil and WS is red.

Toyota can also hook a lappy up and tell exactly if it shifting correctly.
They did it with
mine before and after changing the oil.
Dont think any others have the program to do that.

Andrew,
I've phoned Bob Flood Autos, Bob advised me straight up he does not work on the 5sp auto box in the LC 100 TD, he recommends you contact *Melville Toyota* because they have 2 x Japanese trained specialists on this particular gearbox.
Hope this gets the facts up front for you instead of just my recommendation to contact Bob Flood Automatics, as you would have been told the exact same thing by him and would not have any hassles.
