DO NOT BE CRITICAL OF THIS HAPPENING
In Africa animals that do not fit into the herd are usually left for the lions. If the human race is going to develop, go where no man has gone before and explore the universe, we cannot have dumb people driving the space ships. It is just "Darwinism" survival of the smart humans.
Put them into a "institution" and the tax payer has to foot the bill. Here they are providing a service. Helping support ongoing tourism and promoting the economy by providing food for the local animals.
There is often a silver lining to most dumb things people do. Sometimes you need to just search a little deeper.
I feel sorry for the outboard however.

Hi Carl. Thanks for the post. I have always subscribed to
Darwin's theory on evolution. Such a pity we cannot speed it up a little. cheers, case

I'm pretty sure I camped next to this group of 6 middle aged idiots at Howard Springs - when I asked them about their intentions for the 'boat' which was tied to the roof they told me they'd already had it wet in a few
places with all 6 on board. Also told me they were from down south and knew all about sharks etc etc - I didn't bother to point out a few slight diffs between sharks & crocs - just left shaking my head!!

I agree, just let natural selection run it's course.
We have so many safeguards in our society now that idiots and morons are flourishing.

Just a question from someone who has never been to croc country yet ...
What effect does an outboard motor have on crocs ?
Are they scared of the noise / vibration ?
Are they attracted to t ?
Or do they just ignore it and wait for a human sandwich ?
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,
My brother lives, works and fishes in the Kimberly and reckons crocks are primarily attracted by vibrations.
A couple of slaps with an oar will not scare them away, they will come in closer to check it out.
I feel that tour operaters are part of the problem.
Encouraging crocs to come to the boat for tucker, put on a display for the punters thus creating a pattern. The croc soon picks up on this.
Cheers......Lionel.

Each croc is different.
Depends on how much human interaction they have experienced. The larger ones seem to be very shy(from the days of being shot at), but the younger ones very outgoing. Have had heaps come up to the boat over they years, an oar across the face usually sorts them out.
I agree about the tour operators teaching them to come for food and jump. That is pathetic

Muntoo, I used to drive a taxi and your description applies equally to my passengers.

Steve - Many a crocodile has attacked a boat but not many the outboard - here is that story
One of our most famous crocodiles is preserved here. Sweetheart was a 5.4 meter male croc famous for attacking outboard motors on local fishing boats who strayed into it's territory in Sweet's
Lookout Billabong. Eventually trapped by
Park Rangers but finished up in the museum because it did not survive the trapping.
Lots of attacks on canoes
Cheers Tony

One night I counted over 90 crocodiles in the
water where I had taken the photo below just the previous day.

Remember - that out of bad things there is always something good.
In this case it would result in - 6 less for the pension.
So look on the brighter side of things.
