Hi All, After 6 sets of 265 x75's 16s, BFG A/Ts on two Patrols over 11 years, it may be a good time to change. I have to say i have had an excellent run out of every set, an average of around 100,000ks a set. I'm halfway through a set now and have found one tyre on the front to have a thump in it so it might be a good time to get my Alloys off and get my GU steels on the road with a new set of rubber. I can use the current 3 good tyres on my off road trailer and its spare. I'm looking for something a little more comfortable on the road and for lower noise so i have been thinking about the Bridgestone D694 LT. Has anyone out there used both tyres and how do they directly compare. I saw a post some time back that mentioned that they were quieter and a little less harsh that the BFG's..How do they compare for mileage? regards Michael

Hi Michael,
I have only had the 694s. very comfortable, very quite, good on wet tar, not bad for and at off road. Wear
well I reckon I will be doing
well to get 60000. But
mine where only the pass construction, but a very good all rounder.
Cheers Pete

Ive had 2 sets of BFG A/T and am now on my 1st set of D694 LT in a 235x85x16 size.
All were on 73 ,75 and 60 series landcruisers
Im more than happy with the Bridgestones although I wouldnt say they are
miles ahead of the BFGs.
Less road noise and firmer in the corners are the most notable traits.
No obvious wear issues in 18 months Ive had them,I think they have about 15000 klms so far
They took a few months to lose their jelly rubber feel but the dealer had pre warned me of this.
Ive taken them out to
Steep Point a couple of times and done a few klms on WA coastal tracks with sharp
limestone and not had any punctures.
I always adjust the air pressure to suit the terrain and have about 40-45 psi in them on the road depending on the load.
They have 80psi stamped on them some where.
The tests they did in a popular 4WD mag indicated they excelled in the sand 10/10 rather than mud 7/10 and come in 3rd in a field of 10 with the Pirelli Scorpions best overall to the best of my memory.

Man you have done some k's.
600,000kms in 11 years and only been through 6 sets of tyres.
Thats roughly 1 set of tyres every 2 years and 50,000kms a year.
I'd be sticking with those tyres if you do them k's and get that mileage.

Muntoo!! You have to add the original tyres that came with both new Patrols, about 50,000ks each. I drove 73ks each way to work for 7 years and then 100ks each way to work for 3 years..mostly 6 days a week and sometimes 7 days, Pretty tough in a 4x4,,, Now only doing 14ks each way per day.... much easier i can tell you.. regards, Michael

Muntoo! i forgot to add that you can get great milage from tyres driving on the freeway, no braking or cornering, i guess that adds a lot of life to already tough tyres and tyres already known for long life, regards Michael

Ive had both and am on my second set of BFG's and they are better in my opinion. They offer better grip off road and are equal on road.
45,000 from the D694 and 60,000 from the BFG first set, size 265/70/16 in both on the same vehicle.

Michael for over 30 years I have tried most brands & in the last ten I still come back to my BFG A/ts as my 1st choice but if it's $ you want to save the Maxis are a great tire for the money, not that good on/in the dirt but straight out mileage on the black stuff have not found a better tyre for the money & a very quiet tire
regards Vince

Hi Vince, I think for the milage i get from the BFG's the price is ok. I suppose all A/T tyres are harsh, i thought i could improve that a little.. I will have a rethink.. I noticed the BFG's on your vehicle and i have to say they are probably the most popular tyres around... regards Michael
