Hi Mark
If the unit runs "win ce", it should be able to run run Ozi Exp CE ,which in turn allows you to use any raster maps you wish.

Hi Mark,
When I started on a similar quest to yours, I was amazed at what is possible with some of these devices.
I suggest that you refer back to post 78843 as a starting point. There is a link there to the GPS Passion forum. There you will find info on a program called MioPocket 3. This has now been upgraded to version 4. Open the first page of the discussions on MP4 for a great idea of the possibilities for these small hand held devices. The "readme" file for MP4 shows that it can be applied to anything running WinCE ( almost any small handheld device ) and it turns them into a full Mini computer.
Once this is done you can install any nav program of your choice, along with photo viewers, music and video players, games, e-readers, and just about anything you can imagine.
On my Navman MY50T, I currently run Navman, iGo8, and the often mentioned OziExplorer, which allows a choice of very detailed off-road and topo charts. I also have a 7" generic chinese unit set up in a similar fashion.

A word of warning about the units that run navigation from a DVD as in the upmarket Pradoes, a very small amount of dust in the DVD slot can stop the laser reading the disk, thus no GPS. Not great for the Simpson Desert we found, so stick to solid state storage, inbuilt memory or memory cards so check the device has a card slot.
Beware, this can be time consuming. I enjoyed playing, but if you don't have the time go buy something ready made like the Hema Navigator etc

Happy travels
Dazza
