Am I imagining it or are the semi-off road vans getting closer to the real thing?
I recently looked at the 16' Crusader X Country Pop Top and compared it to a Kimberly Trakmaster. It seems to have similar components from chassis to
suspension to internal fittings with a 15 grand price difference.
I would be very interested to know if anybody had any good or bad off road experience with a Crusader X Country Caravan?
Thanks,
Gus

I haven't seen the van you refer to but ask 2 questions.
Is the steel Aussie steel or imported steel - can be very diferrent and is it hot dipped gal chassis.

Hi Baz,
Not sure about the steel but will find out. It is however a hot dipped gal chassis, which is an option on the trakmaster.

Have just come back from 3 months trip,
Broome up to Middle
Lagoon (Cape Levique) and back to South Australia. Brand new Crusader X country, few minor problems (mainly manufacture problems like not placing electric bake cables in protective casing) but it handled off road conditions
well. We previously had a Supreme Getaway and that went anywhere and everywhere, Crusader a bit heavier but we did enjoy luxury of toilet/shower!!!

Hi Osters,
Thanks for that feedback. If the X country can handle the Cap Leveque road, then that speaks volumes about the make. I travelled on that road a few years back and it was one of the worst I had been on. How did it handle the dust? Do you have a pop top or the full height van?

We have had a look at the X country as
well and have been impressed. We are upgrading from a camper trailer that we have been towing with a hilux sr5 3 litre t/d.Was interested to know what you towed with and is yours a single axle. We will be interested in a full van.

Had a rough trip for 80km going up but after heaps of rain trip back down was a breeze!!! We have pop top with singles. No problem with dust except in v lower cupboards next to floor and it was minimal. It is a single axle but we did upgrade to higher load bearing capacity tyres. We towed with a Landcruiser GXL V8 Petrol . We did make several alterations to interior, Longer narrower table and dropped cupboard next to fridge. All done with no hassle.
