hi, need to know if a hj60 and fj60 gearbox's are able to be swapped as i have two cars, one deisel 4 speed and one petrol 5 speed and wish to use the 5 speed on the deisel? i know the handbrake situation will work out as i am also swapping the diffs so this is ok. just need to know if the bellhousing will bolt to engine and is the spline the same?

Hi jeffrow,
I wouldn't have a clue, Sorry.
But the guys at
Lcool will be able to help you.
Swing by there and become a member and ask in their
forum in your model section.
They'll be able to help.
Cheers,

G`day Hairs& fysh,
Please don`t think that I am having a go at you but, do you honestly think that the guys at Lcool will be interested in helping a 60 series owner ?
As far as I know they won`t even let you become a member or register on their site, only 80 series or newer owners.
Cheers,
Scrubby.

Hey Scrubby
No harm in asking.
Besides as a collective here how many blokes on here would to be doing a conversion like this?
There's plenty of FJ owners there.
Just as jeffrow has asked here, there is no harm in asking.
I have a lot of respect of the 60 series cruiser, the last run of them have the same running gear as my old girl has.
If jeffrow likes, I can ask the question on Lcool if he likes, the worst that can happen is they will tell me to go jump.
Hmmm.

hi guys, thanks for your help. found out and confirmed via marks adaptors and local wreckers. It can definately be done. just have to use a petrol clutch and pressure plate when i swap them. everything else should just bolt straight in. Handy to know though as the gearboxs are the same exept for the length and input shaft, so if i keep the same clutch set up and same f/r shafts it should go straight in. thanks anyway.

Hi jeffrow'
I didn't even think of Mark's Adaptors.
That's good that you got it sorted.
Good Stuff.

Mate of
mine changed a 4 speed box for a 5 speed on his 1980 landcruiser 45 series - I believe he had to get the front input shaft changed but that was between different models. He also lost the tailshaft handbrake and need a tailshaft change.
The spec sheets for the 60 series shows 3 different gear boxes.
The H-series is a 4- and 5-speed manual transmission for Land Cruisers from 1974-present(?).
Models:
* H41 4-speed
* H42 4-speed
* H55f 5-speed

So in short - they used the same gear boxes with petrol or diesel motors. You may need to make some minor changes to the anatomy of your car.

thanks, hard to go off the specs in my case as the 4 speed deisel did have a 5 speed in it from factory, although i did change it some years ago when i needed the original 5 speed to use on a 2h turbo conversion in a hj47. thanks
