Hi all,
Wife and myself are going to Wollondilly River Station for a week or so next month for a bit of a break. It's only a 4 hr or so trip taking our time, and a couple of 'lunch stops'.
While we are down there, (we have never been to that area before), we will have a look at the
Wombeyan caves, and slip into Bowral and check out the Sir Donald Bradman museum, but we are also looking to do a couple of other day trips. Just somewhere we can throw a picnic basket in the car with a couple of drinks, and take off and relax.
Just looking for quiet, pleasant, scenery. The Jackaroo is fairly
well set up do go rough off-road, but not extreme. Just wondering if some out there may have some 'secret spots' that they particularly like, that might fit the bill. We will check out the info centre in Bowral, but we are trying to get a heads up before we go.
Thanks for any info
Cheers, Dave

G/Day Dave,
I hope you've booked ahead at Wollondilly River as he gets a bit upset if you just turn up.
Cheers Dave...

Hi Dave,
Yeah, heard he can be a bit of a cranky bugger!! lol. Going to book this week, not going till mid next month, just after the school holidays. By the same token, I can be a bit of a cranky bugger too, and the
Wombeyan Caves park is just down the road if he pees me off.
I'm sure all will be good, have heard it's a nice place. Met his wife up here at the Maitland 4WD show a couple of years ago, bought a
camp oven
cook book from her, and we promised ourselves to go have a look at the place.
Cheers, Dave

There are some nice walks through the National
Park which is at the end of the track through the gates on the left as you go over the causway (Mittagong end)
The western side of the river gets the early morning sunshine but is not suitable for campertrailers.
All the roads are pretty
well maintained, unless there has been some heavy rain, in whch case there can be some deep potholes.
But as mentioned, make sure you book and do it by phone not email as Brian tends not to read the emails

The Caves to Caves trip is a beaut drive (Wombeyan to Jenolan) . The only issue can be the Kowmung River if there has been a lot of rain but generally it's it's only about half wheel height. I think there is a plot file on here somewhere. If not PM me and I can let you have one.

We were down there on Saturday.
The Kowmung River at the crossing was just over the top of the
wheels and flowing
well.

Hi Dave,
I'm not sure just where Wollondilly Station is but it must be close to the Southern Highlands I guess. If so....
You could do a loop drive down through Kangaroo Valley, stopping at Fiitzroy Falls for a look on the way. The drive down into the Kangaroo Valley is picturesque and you could then drive across to Berry (continue through the town of Kangaroo Valley to find the turn). Berry is a charming touristy little town with lots of
places to eat and browse.
At Berry continue North on the Princes Highway a short distance, turn right at
Kiama to Jamberoo and then up the Jamberoo Mountain road to The Illawarra Fly - a walkway and
lookout over the coast not far from Robertson, which I haven't managed to get to yet but is supposed to be worth a visit.
From there you can make your way back to Bowral or the other Southern Highland towns and villabes.
It would be a good day trip I think.
Cheers,
Heather

Hi Heather
I have read many, if not all of your
blogs, and knowing your love of great scenery, native flora and fauna, we will certainly look into this trek.
Sorry about the confusion, Wollondilly is about 50~55km west of Mittagong/Bowral.
Their website is not too flash, nor up to date, but as they say, they run a station, not a website. You can have a look here if you are interested, looks pretty.
Wollondilly
