Hi. I am planning a camping trip to the Murray river (near Yarrawonga) this weekend and was wondering if anyone had information on the advisability/ condition of this area after the recent heavy rain falls and floods??
Thanks

The BOM has all the info:

MINOR FLOOD WARNING FOR RURAL AREAS ALONG THE MURRAY RIVER DOWNSTREAM OF
TOCUMWAL AND EDWARD RIVER AT DENILIQUIN
Issued at 10:35 am EST on Tuesday 14 September 2010
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office

Minor Rural flooding continues downstream of Tocumwal after the Murray River
peaked there on Saturday 11/9/10.

The level of the Murray River at Echuca is rising more slowly than expected and
is now predicted to peak near minor flood level (93.5 metres AHD) towards the
end of this week.

Predicted River Heights/Flows:
Deniliquin - peak near 5.5 metres around 21/9/10 with minor rural flooding

Echuca / Moama - peak near 93.5 metres (AHD) this Friday or Saturday with
minor rural flooding - note river levels will be close to
the peak for several days before the maximum level is
recorded.

Torrumbarry Weir - Peak around 7.5 metres around 21/9/10 with minor rural
flooding

Barham - peak near 5.8 metres around 23/9/10 with minor to moderate rural
flooding

In the interests of community safety the SES suggests following precautions:
* Don't walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
* Don't allow children to play in floodwater,
* Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains, and
* Keep well clear of fallen power lines

Contact the SES on 132 500, if emergency assistance is required.

It was flooded on the weekend just gone, or so I was told by some campers coming from the area. Contact the Hotel as they are on the camp ground.

tastpa - one of my most favourite camping spots is about 8km west of Yarrawonga at a place called Forges Bend......nice grassed area, great sandy beach and also has a long drop dunny. Just be sure to take some firewood with you as there isn't much of this around.
