Hi Mike
This subject has been brought up many a time on this forum. Taking on the advise given, I changed my internet to Telstra Next G, as I wanted to have internet access while travelling. We have recently returned from a 8 wk trip up to Cape York, and was very happy with the coverage. I wouldn't go past the next G network. Cheers Revs

Hi Mike

If you need daily contact, satellite is the only option - and expensive, otherwise as aforesaid, wireless internet through the Telstra Next G network is the only option. It gives cover in most towns and up to 20 kms around depending on terrain. Coverage map -

try 100k around most towns terrain dependent. GSM goes 28km and with aerial 100k. With correct aerial you can get 200km range from the 200km range NextG towers. approx 80 200km range towers in operation

"GSM goes 28km and with aerial 100k" should read GSM goes 28km and NextG with aerial 100k. GSM has a maximum range of 28km regardless if you use an aerial or not.
