Gday peoples, I'm thinking of taking a dirt road from Sandstone through to Menzie and looking at the map, it cuts through some salt lakes. Just curious if anybody has been through this way or is it just tracks between properties?. I know the last 53km of it comes out near the Lake Ballard lake sculptures.

Cheers Hunty

Hi Hunty, the road/track does go through Cashmere Downs and a couple of other properties ( I forget the names) it was in pretty good shape when we came through there last year, just take a bit of care approaching dips in the road if has rained. The Lake Ballard sculptures are worth a look and the lookout just before you get to the sculptures has a good view, I think it is called Snake Hill lookout. Anyhow, you will enjoy it through there. Cheers, Kanga.

Hi Hunty
There is a lot of mining activity out that way and when that happens, the roads are as good as any bitumen road. Make sure that you drop into Lake Ballard, where there is also a couple of good little camping spots right on the Lake edge.

Cheers

Stephen

We came through that way on our return from the gathering in July and the road was great. Only a few cars so easy travel.

Gday again. That was one of the best dirt roads i have been on and for 295km amazing. We only saw one other car going the other way until we got to Lake Ballard. We really felt like we were ou the middle of nowhere. It was a great way to get home as we only had 5 days to get to Whyalla from Carnarvon. Got stuck in Carnarvon for 5 days so made that diversion.

Thanks for the replys!!
