Dear all,
My partner and I are preparing for a 12 month
camping trip around Australia for October 2010. We have the normal kit (Nissan Patrol containing tents / cooking equipment / bikes etc ). We obviously have mandatory car insurance, and also private health insurance (Medibank).
Please could you suggest the best insurance for contents (tents / bikes etc) for a 12 month trip around Oz.
Our car insurance gives us very limited contents insurance, and this is only applicable if the car is broken into. Normal home contents insurance can cover a few items, however, to get this, you need a house! (which we don’t have).
Hence, we are looking for insurance for a year if, for example, our cooking equipment / tent gets stolen.
I look forward to your ideas, and thank you for your time.
Kind regards
Pete

Try thread 80874. If I recall correctly, one of the best options was CIL insurance.
Good luck.

Also not a bad idea to look at RACQ Ultra Care insurance (or equivalent if you don't live in Qld). Provides extra towing, accomodation and travel home etc if you're stuck somewhere. We used it when we rolled our Patrol in a remote area of Arnhem Land and they were fantastic...
well worth the extra $$$.

Doesnt however cover contents as we have it and its a vehicle insurance.
We had great difficulty getting contents insurance as we didnt have a home either.
We got a company to tailor one for us but they no longer do that.
You will just have to ring around I think as we couldnt find a regular company that would do it.

I know it doesn't cover contents, but it sure saves a heap of money if you have a breakdown or accident somewhere remote. Just something to think about....that's all!

We use HCF in
Perth for travel insurance, both domestic and international. Good coverage and competitive prices.
