A large wolf spider has taken up residence in my Prado. Should I tell the wife (who would freak out) or buy a new Prado?

Do not worry about the Wolf Spider. Your wife will be pleased that there are no flies or other nasties in the Prado......

I had picked up one of those arachnoid's on my last trip, I felt it was more scared of me than I was of it. I was surprised how quick it could go over slick surfaces.
My biggest concern was to keep it out of the bags that I was bringing home.
We have enough of imported pests here anyway.( Possums and the others )
Last time I saw it, it was scurrying under the back and up into the chassis rails some where. With the Troopy sitting up on the jack stands for the summer it hopefully might run out of tucker and find somewhere else to live.
The last thing I would want to see is it turning up here.

Hi. A panelbeater nearby to us at work had his Daughter's Prado in his workshop recently for a rebuild. It had been rolled after a Huntsman came off the sunvisor above her and scared the crap out of her. She was really lucky to escape with seatbelt bruising and a knock on her head. Guess I'm saying get rid of it. Bob. ( This is not an excuse for Robin Miller to come in and say how easy Prado's roll either, LOL)

That happened to me but without the accident. Nothing like a 3" spider dropping in your lap in the dark to scare the crap out of you that's for sure. Mike

Hi Toyo

We had 3 cars to play with yesterday on my tracks , a newish Navara 2.5 diesel , a 2003 Prado diesel and an FJ40 diesel which unbelivably had been converted to 100% gas - however I will take your advice and tell that story another time.

As for the spider , I'd get rid of it fast , and the way I did it in my car was to get a quality can of surface spray and spray not only on the obvious places
but up in side the guards where secondary panels creat voids.

We had one that took a long time to get and eventually found that it lived
between the Radiator and the aircon condenser in the front of the car.

It lived in a near perfect place, low down avioding the radiators main heat and living well off insects that hit front of radiator.

Hi Robin. No offence meant from my comment above and said with tongue firmly in cheek.LoL. I will be interested to hear that story. Although I am the owner of a 120 series Prado I must admit I saw one a couple of years ago that seemed to go over much easier than it should have.I came along a few minutes after it happened. It was at traffic lights and the lady driver clipped the raised median strip as she turned right through the lights. I don't know what speed she was doing so that may have contributed but on it's side is was when I arrived. Regards,Bob.

Spiders love the dead insects around the front of the vehicle, they tend to go back inside during the day or when you are on the move.

2 options...

1. Keep your car clean, especially the radiator and frontal area.

2. put an insect "bomb" in a tin bucket and let it off in your car..

I had to do the last one after parking under a tree when returning from a long trip without giving the car a good clean..

Only 1 week and I had about 20 spiders in and around the car. This attracted the insect eaters (lizards) and birds that crapped all over it.

The insect bomb is interesting, you will see where all the air leaks and gaps are.
Used to be able to get the bombs from the supermarkets, the last one I got from Bunnings.

Good luck.

I had a friend jump out of a moving car once when a spider came down from the visor. Spider was only about 2mm in size, bit that was enough. Just as well I was only just taking off from the traffic lights.

It would depend on wether or not your happy having passengers.

BTW. It was the funniest thing I had seen in a long time.

Now when I told her a week later after taking her somewhere, that under the seat she was sitting on was a snake..... That was not funny. Painfull, but not funny.

Okay, now I am jealous. One of the best methods of insect control and you want to get rid of it. My grandkids play with them, and never get nipped, so why not let it look after insects for you and let it stay. Just my opinion.
Why travel overseas, you could travel Australia your entire life, and not see it all.

Put a python it the car.
Not only will it discourage spiders but thieves think twice as well.
