We have a 2005 Ford Transit van - minor issue is that the interior cabin lights do not turn off when doos are closed (and yes with the switch on the light in the Door position and not the ON position).

I can only see 2 door switches that should turn them off - the driver door and the sliding side door - and have activated them by hand when testing to be sure they are being pressed in fully.

Anyone got any wiring diagrams or experience for Transit's that may show if there are any other hidden secrets that would hold the lights on - the door switches would normally break the earth to the lights so one would guess that there is a wire being earthed somewhere or a busted switch I guess.

hi
ken in perth
yes there is a short
i'd suggest you pull the switches out of the the doors to see if a wire has come off and is earthing out

there may be something touching the wires in the switch recess area

this happened to me on a nissan navara a few years back had simular problem with cab lights staying on when doors were full closed

could also be a faulty door switch
and/or the wiring in behind the interior light it's self

might be shorting on something which will keep the light on
remove the light base and check there too

if the wires are still connected to the switch contacts then there is a short on the pos somewhere
you may have to remove some panels and follow the wiring through to it's power source
should be the fuse box by rights
cheers

Well I am glad I did not go pulling the van apart too much as yet.

It appears the interior lighting is not as "basic" as I expected - although the manual does not make any note of this that I found.

Seems the interior lighting in the DOOR mode is off when either the ignition is on or the motor is running - have not tested that far yet.

I just happened to note that when I was driving and put the light switch into DOOR mode it did not come on but when I was stopped with then door still closed it did. I assume it has a time out and then turns off.

So I guess that is consistent with a lot of courtesy lights these days in cars - did not expect it of the Transit though.
