I'm rebuilding an FJ40 SWB. There is little knee room behind the steering wheel for tall people. Makes driving a little uncomfortable. I would like to swap the steering wheel for a slightly smaller one. It still has the standard wheel (which looks to be about 1metre diameter!!!)
Can anyone tell me what options will fit as a replacement?

SAAS do a bose to suit the L/C spline, 14" would be the smallest you would want to go as it gets a bit hard to turn without power steering.

Yeah i agree with tony, but make sure you get a boss kit which is a a adaptor from the landcruiser to the new steering wheel.

The is loads of brands, just pop into your local super cheat auto and they will have loads of steering wheels.

Thanks. I'll look around and maybe visit Mr. "Super Cheat".
Do other Toyota wheels fit? Hilux etc? What models have a good size wheel I may be able to get from a wrecker?

Whoops

I mean "Super Cheap Auto", bloody dam typing error hehehe.

I think it depends on the stud pattern same as the tyres, you would have to ask the wreckers for that info really, i just ask them i want a boss kit for this steering wheel.

hi, had an fj40 78 model with a hilux wheel on it around 86-88 model (last of the square ones) much smaller in diameter made it a bastard to turn at low speeds.

I had a polyurethane SAAS wheel on my FJ40, it was a softop so the poly wheel was great if it got wet or needed a clean after mud or grease!

I fitted decent seats in too and they made it easier to spin the wheel at low speed, holds you in place and you can turn ok! It is 'armstrong steering' but manageble!!

If you want to know offhand what wheel will fit you model 40, then look in the Boss cataloge for ur 40 and then match that to the year of the vehicle to see if it uses the same boss! That way the original wheel should also fit straight on!!
Goodluck!

I also found the oe steering wheel to big, but found 14inch to small, so I got a 15inch sports steering wheel, (hard to find) and its just right......Dazz
