Hi,
Looking at going camping for a weekend to Jenolan SF.
I know there is or was a campsite there but can not seem to find any info on it - does anyone know of it.

Also will have a few people that are new to 4wheeling with us and want to take them down a couple of nice and interesting tracks while we are there (nothing too technical as don't want to scare them just yet), again if any one has info that would be great.

Thanks for any input

Ian

Kowmung fire trail down across the river then camp at Dingo Dell? There is only a pit toilet there but it's in good nick. That is on the south side of Jenolan caves. On the north side, you can follow six foot track all the way down to the river as well. There is a campground with a toilet there. Both are pretty scenic in places but the six foot track is easier but a little harder ro find the start. Mike

Hi Mike,

Are either of these accessable by 2wd? and if so, where abouts is the entry point for the six foot track one? if possible do you know the nearest cross road....or GPS location?

Cheers

Jenolan Caves Road into Cox's River is 2wd accessible, not sure of the co-ordinates, but look for a turn-off/sign-post to Black Range Campground from Jenolan Caves Road (Black Range Road). There are a couple of minor creek crossings near Alumin Creek.

Try searching this site as I know another member did post specific track notes a couple of years ago. It is farily straight-forward and there are a couple of entry points. You can come in from the North ALong Cullenbong Rad,and Glen Creek Road(?).

Otherwise here is a map of the six foot track showing Black Range ROad. YOu followe it in from Jenolan Caves Road and then follow the Six Foot Track (marked on map) down to the Cox's River.

SIx Foot Track Map

Enjoy...

Cheers, The Landy

Dingo Dell is definitely not 2wd accessible. Six foot track is more awd than 2wd but I suppose it could be 2wd if the weather is good and there had been no recent rain. There is a creek crossing that can be thigh deep but is usually only just above the ankles. There is a sign to the six foot track off the caves road. The other entry is off Coxs River rd but involves opening and closing several gates. That entry is definitely 2wd friendly. Sorry it's been a while. Also, Kanangra Walls is a nice drive and view as well. Mike

Thanks for the info The Landy and Mike, much appreciated. My Wife and I are planning some camping trips to do during summer with our 5yr old son, and this area was one we were looking into.

We are planning to get a 4wd hopefully over the summer, so i've been reading into as much info on this forum/website as i can....but we also want to get into camping, even if we dont have the 4wd yet.

Some of my family recently went camping and stayed in the Oberon State Forest on abercrombie road, there is an area on the corner at the turnoff that heads into oberon.....they had a great time, but im interested in finding some places that are a little further from main roads and a little less shaded from trees, it was freezing where they were. Mind you it is early spring...but everytime we have stopped there for a cuppa whilst out for a drive it has always been on the colder side as it is completely shaded by the HUGE pine trees.

Other than Jenolan caves, and the beautiful drives/scenery is there much in the area in terms of historic buildings/ruins to have a look around? or other must see places/roads to drive along?

Cheers,
Martin

If you want scenery and history accessible by 2wd then it's hard to beat Newnes. It's a great drive in from Lithgow on a really good dirt road through fantastic cliffs. The camp ground is really good and the ruins of the old shale processing plant from last century are very interesting.. They have information plaques along a guided walk. There is also a walk to the glow worm tunnel as well although it may be a stretch for a 5 year old. It really ticks your boxes I think. Mike

Its a little bit south but we went out to Kanangra Walls. There is a camp ground out there. On our way back from the look out we turnd off before the camp ground on the Morong Creek Trail. Very easy until we got to this little creek. We made it through fine but was a tad deep and the exit looked harder than it was.Image Could Not Be Found
Then we turned left on the Kowmung fire trail. Easy again until the creek which was more like a river at the time. We turned back up the hill and went straight to the main road. As we were solo and it was getting on in the day we didnt attempt the crossing.Image Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be Found
This trip was up there with Cape York. Wish we had more time.

Thanks for the info guys and girls.
I have been out there a few times with the Range Rover Club, but always in the pack so following others, and before we had the GPS to log trips etc.

This will help a lot

Thanks again
