Hi

I have a 1999 100 Series GXL Landcruiser and was looking at upgrading the front seats for long term touring and outback travel. Does anyone have any suggestions and/or experience here?
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve,

I replaced the seats in my 100 series (2003 mod) about 3 yrs ago,I was sick of getting a sore backside on long trips.I fitted some recaro specialist L seats, best thing I ever did, they hold you in the seat on those rough tracks too.I kept the original seats so they can go back in the cruiser if and when i upgade and the recaro's will go in the next vehicle.

cheers
Peter

i fitted some SAAS pump up lumbar support seats to my 105 series Landcruiser. i purchased the seats secondhand off of ebay, and then built new bases to bolt the seats into position. got it engineered afterwards and now enjoy the long trips, beforehand the lower lumbar support was woeful, so i understand where your coming from.
getting seats with bases that bolt straight into your vehicle is the hard part, i'll look for an old thread on LCOOL forum for you, that named one such seat recently. the base wasn't all that cheap, but it makes it so much easier when it all just bolts in and you don't need to make it yourself...lol

i found the thread i was after...
Ideal seat Co. in Melb is who the guy got his bases / rails from, to suit the Recaro seat he put in his 100 series. the rail was $380 then the seat will be extra on that again.
maybe give them a call and see what they sell

I put an after market Paratus seat, that l bought off ebay, in my old HDJ80. It had airbag lumbar too and was awesome to sit in for long stints. I've heard Recaros are brilliant too. People spend thousands of dollars modifying and adding accessories to their vehicles and a lot of the stuff they buy might only get used occasionally or never! I wouldn't really hesitate spending decent money on a good seat now, because you get your moneys worth out of it everytime your drive the vehicle. You can always remove them and move them to the next vehicle when it's time. You get what you pay for with aftermarket seats.

I also had a Paratus seat in my 80 series. Was a great investment and I wish I had kept that seat to put in my later GU.

But with my 200 and most later model 4WD's, there is no way to replace the seats due to airbags being installed on the actual seats :( At least the 200 seat is much better than the stock 80, but not up to the Paratus standard.

Cheers

G'day Steve,

I have also replaced our LC Seats with Ricaro Specialist L. I ended up getting two for both passenger and driver. They offer fantastic support and I thoroughly recommend them. Only issue for consideration is to make sure you try the different types of Ricaro's i.e M's, L's etc as the Specialist L is a little narrow but for us it really holds you in the seat and ensures you are always sitting straight. You can feel the support right along the spine.

Expensive but they are a great product.

I fitted Recaro Expert M's to my 100 series Cruiser as the originals were woeful.

I kept the seats to put in my current ride and I just purchased a new set of bases from Ideal seat Co.

I still have the Cruiser seat bases if you go Recaro's - I have them advertised on 100s Cool forum for $140 the pair.

Cheers
