Hi - Can anyone give me info or testimonials on either established campsites or 'open bush'
camping areas that are not accessible by car/4wd in the
Grampians? I'm keen to do a 2 or 3 hike (ideally a circuit), but all the info I can find focuses on either day/short walks from carparks, or
camping areas for cars/4wds/campervans. Looking for some remote
camping.. Cheers - J.

Hi there. It's a few (quite a few) years ago, but I did a trek along the Mt William range starting near Mafeking, and travelling North towards Mt William. Stiff climbing involved, plus a need for careful map & compass work, with scarps etc to circumnavigate. I would recommend it as a remote walking and
camping option, but only with some good info, maps etc.
As you're aware, much of the central valley between the Serra and Victoria Ranges is mostly like Collins Street.
The walk from Mt Zero South to Mt Difficult sounds interesting also, though I've not done it.

theres a book about by Tyrone Thomas, "80 walks in the Grampians" that deals with exactly what you are after.
Have a look
here
He also has one called 50 walks in the
Grampians, but thats not much chop ;0)

The walk from Mt zero to Mt difficult via bee hive falls is excellent. There are some steep gradients and some very good options to extend it from one to two or three nights..
