Malcolm was standing in the doorway of his troopy, he turned on the ignition, the troopy was in gear, there was a tree on the front right side, the troopy lurched forward and the tree forced the drivers door closed, squashing his chest as the door was forced closed by the tree.

That is just so tragic. I really regret not going to his park on Christmas day last year to meet him (we were still on the road and in Broome). I loved his doco's and his relationship with his dog "Boondie" (sorry if I have spelt it incorrectly)

tam,
yes, they never reported the truth of the horrible accident till today, implying was a car crash, no wonder so many people say they can't believe what they read/hear in the news, maybe anything for a good story.

Malcolm made a great damper, and he was always prepared to share it and talk about his passion, that's something I will always remember about him

RIP Mal

Stephen, you are spot on about Malcolm Douglas being an inspiration.

Way back in 1972 we were in Melbourne for 6 months and we went to see his home movie "Across the Top" at the Melbourne Town Hall.

His adventures in that movie inspired me, and doubtless thousands of others, to get off my butt and explore this country.

His death is an absolute crying shame.

I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy

Just saw the news item in the headlines here on ExplorOz.

RIP Mal.....one of our true legends of the bush.

Too young, too soon...ya just never know.

Saw him cook a damper in a camp oven in one of his episodes, and I still use his recipe.

RIP Malcolm Douglas...gone to the great Back of Beyond.

Fred.

We love his recipe - fish, mango's and coconut cream wrapped in foil and thrown on the coals - this is an awesome dish!

What a legend.
I grew up watching his docos. I met him when I was in the Navy and we were alongside in Broome for a couple of days in the later 90s. I never realised how tall he was.
My wife and I decided over the last weekend that we're selling up, packing up and heading off on the road with our 2 little girls. Malcolm Douglas docos have been screeing on C7. The Kimberley was on last week and have recorded Gibb River Road and Beyond, just started watching the first part with a touch of sadness and a great big sense of adventure.

Onya Malcolm. R.I.P.
