What do you use to clean grease and oil from parts.
I am shortly intending to repack the wheel bearings, from past experience there is a lot of grease to clean off.
Interested to find out what others use for this job.

Thinners,
it doesn't leave a residue to contaminate the new grease like kero does.
Cheers

Depends on what I've got handy and where I'm doing the job , Its all good and
well to say DON'T use this or that [especially petrol] but if that is all that is available at the time so be it , following basic precautions it does no harm , the biggest problem is disposal of whatever you plan on using ,can't just dump the stuff any old where now can you !

tank and the Humvee just keeps hummmiiiing along ? lol.

I use Mineral turps for the final clean dries with out leaving any oil residue to collect any dust.
Best to buy it in 4 litres or more as it isn't cheap ,but a little goes a long way.
And save any used stuff for next time for cleaning off all the excess grease and oil first.
I always have turps around for cleaning paint brushes etc.
Kenco make a good
water based degreaser very good to clean the swivel housings and diffs before disassembly , sray on hose off. it is available at most auto shops.

I just borrow some petrol from my wife's mower fuel container..... :-))
Easy to dispose of - leave it in the sun and it evaporates.

G`day Michael,
The Degreaser that Supa Sheep sell "Export Degreaser" in the red spray can is one of the best and most useful that I have found.
Not only a very good Degreaser but an excellent paint brush cleaner, hand cleaner, tyre cleaner, oil or grease from concrete, etc. etc.
I bought 6 cans for $10 this week on special, usually is around $2 per can.
Regards,
Scrubby.

Gday Scrubby
Degreaser should take the skin off your hands and burn your eyes .

G`day Murray,
I`ve never had any problems with this stuff on my hands.
But, I have never washed my face with it so I don`t know how it goes in the eyes. LOL
See you at Glenpatrick,
Scrubby.

Thanks for all the replies. I wanted to avoid petrol after seeing the Today Tonight episode this week of fumes escaping, flowing upwards and presumably being inhaled when just filling the
tank at the servo.

You ought to spend a week in the burns unit.
At least half were petrol victims and the guy next to me was washing parts in it in just a cup full.

I use BP 99% liquid hydrocarbons. You can often use the same batch more than once if you keep it covered.
