A small group of us from Mackay are heading to Cape York next year at approx june/july 2011. No set date as yet, but we are looking for other interested parties to travel in a group. Ideally looking for approx 15 vehicles to travel and we may also submit an article to 4WD Action mag, so bring your cameras and smiles. For any enquiries email me.

Be aware that 15 vehicles is a nightmare for others on the road as whilst overtaking is limited, many will try and make it dangerous for those in your convoy and others approaching from the opposite direction.

Which area do you intend exploring up the Cape as I summise that a standard trip to the top "may" not be worthy of an article....then again it may ;)

Interested in your trip, though i see no email address. Any more details of the trip/group/cause/etc for all to see?

Hope it all goes well,
Andrew

If you dont mind me asking why are you looking for such a large number of vehicles for the trip

In my opinion the less the better & 15 vehicles will need a heap of space at bush camps etc

I agree donk,

We had trouble finding a space for three vehicles at Twin Fall. I planned the trip and three vehicles was enough, if you have too many you won't have a good time yourself. If you hold yourself out as the organiser, everyone looks to you for decisions when plans change or you have a hiccup along the way.

Geoff

More agreement.

We did it with three vehicles this year and I reckon four would be the maximum. Donk's comment re bush camp sites is right on the money. The big sites (Archer River, Moreton TS) are fine for big groups, but Chili Beach, Elliot Falls, Kalpower have relatively limited space.

I know you can't pick your weather, but I understand it was still pretty damp in June this year.

All the best
John

I agree with Andrew - The Cape is hardly a 4 x 4 trip anymore, that is if you stay to the popular routes. 15 is a big Hassle and if you do travel in convoy you must leave ample overtaking opportunities between vehicles. Do not think that because you are doing the speed limit this will not matter :-)

You will be passed by locals on the dirt, so leave the space to make it safe.

Now if you want to do a 4 x 4 story Take no more than 4 and go to Maytown via the Old Coach Road.
