Hi
its me again.
Omeo towards
Bright, past the Mt Hotham resort there is Buckland Rd which seems more exiting than staying on the Alpine Road.
However I am not clear about the access?
According to my Hema map the access is via Twins Jeep Tk just past the resort.
Has anyone been / done that?
I know I am asking a lot but that is what this site is all about?!
Thank you
JS

Yep you can go that way.
The buckland valley road is quite pretty and there are some
nice camp spots along the river.

You can either go into Buckland over
the Twins or thru
Bright. Via twins isn't especially difficult but if you're towing thru
Bright would be much easier. If not towing I'd go twins

Yep
the Twins road is nice. Particularly if you have time to stop along the way & take a walk up to the Alpine walking track & have a look at the great
views that you miss out on by just driving on
the Twins track. Better be prepared for a steep walk though if you take this option but it's worth it.
Bear in mind this track may be closed for a bit longer than usual because of the good snow season this year.

Twins Jeep Track is an easy route suitable even for a light duty 4x4 although not ideal for towing as there are long narrow sections where it's difficult to pass. It takes off directly along side the
Dargo road
intersection. There are a couple of more difficult side tracks to Mt Murray, the Great Divide track & the
creek track (who's name escapes me) all worth a look. As has been mentioned this track is a seasonal closure which will open on the
Melbourne Cup weekend. The local Wangaratta 4x4 Club normally go in a couple of weeks before to clear this and other tracks in the area. Once onto the Bucland Valley road it is a main access used in the past for logging so can tow an offroad van up as far as Beveridges Station.
Unfortunately the only other way accross to the Buckland at this time of year is from Harrietville coming out at the Clear
Creek track crossing which has been quite deep of late.
Check out the Parks Vic website for details of track closures at this time of year.
Cheers Craig............
