There should be very little difference in performance between the two. They both basically do the same thing, but in slightly different ways. The Dtronic alters the sensor signals to the ECU and the DP Chip alters the signals to the IP after the ECU. The issue now is that the Dtronic is no longer available, so the DP/Steinbauer etc are the only options. There were rumours of manufacturing quality issues with many Dtronics that didn’t work, which may have had something to do with it’s demise and why ARB have dropped them.
I’ve had a Dtronic in my ZD30 Patrol since day 1 and have had no issues. On the dyno, it does what the manufacturer states and for the record the Dtronic can be re-programmed, but needs to be returned to Safari to be done. Unfortunately there never was a Dtronic for the CRD, but the CRD DP Chip is now also a plug in affair.

Hmm very strange as I thought they could be programmed and rang them to get
one done and was told they were factory programmed to each model of motor and
NO they cant be redone for individual engines.
So what do you know that I dont seeing my answer came from the Aussie distributor.

Hi Graham,
I read a report in one of the popular 4WD magazines back in 2003 (I think) when I was looking to buy a performance chip for my ZD30 Patrol. It was a promotional report by Safari and consisted of dyno testing a ZD30 Patrol before and after fitting the Dtronic, but the vehicle in question had a 3” sports exhaust fitted to it, so the Dtronic was sent back to Safari for reprogramming as it was said that it would be benificial to do so after further modifications to the car and it would be advisable if fitting larger free flowing exhaust. It mentioned that only Safari could do the reprogramming, so it may be the case that the Aussie Distributor may not even know about it. To my knowledge, ARB were the Aussie distributors and no longer sell any performance chips. My Dtronic has a 4pin socket on it that isn’t used and I suspect that this may be the programming port. It's most likely just a case of having the cable and software, but Safari would probably never release it.

I rang the Safari people not ARB and asked about that set of pins and was told no they couldnt do it. I was also told that the 3" exhaust should be fitted as
well as the chip as it was tuned for it.
So I di and it went from 145 to 165 at the wheels
