Anyone have information on failed Torque Converters in Nissan Patrol Auto.
Mine has just failed at 190,000. Patrol is a 3ltr 2003 model. Would appreciate info on problems others have had also any old threads. Cheers Benton

You will have a good chance of finding info on the
Nissan Patrol Forum
I have posted some comments there regarding my 2003 GU Auto (155,000KM). It was making a vibration as I changed speed from about 80kph and up. The dealer gave it a power flush ($260) and that fixed the problem. However since then I have an uneasy feeling about the transmission because it seems to have a low speed (50kph) vibration . It is only slight and the experts from Nissan and an independent Automatic
shop have indicated that it was not a problem. This has in fact proved to be so because I have since travelled some 10,000 km including a
Vic High Country trip and several towing trips without a problem. The Transmission is performing OK. I just wonder what might be brewing. I believe that this transmission has a good reputation generally.

Interestingly this problem first appeared about 6 months ago at around 165,000Klms. It first presented as a loss of power under pressure eg uphill on initial climb then once stopped and restarted the problem disappeared. This time it gave no warning, lost power and would not move in any gear, however once the engine cooled down the power was back until the engine warmed up again. Stripping down the gear box showed a lot of metal and the torque converter done. I was just interested to hear if anyone else had had the same problem.

This is a JATCO box and apparently a very good box, used in many V8 conversions etc. I bought a torque converter lock switch for
mine from wholesale automatics in
Melbourne and they seemed very knowledgeable about them. Give them a call. They also do a shift kit for them if I recall correctly.
