Hi. I have an 80 ser L/C and it has developed a clunking sound when driven in reverse. I suspect it is the CV joints. Can anybody back me up on this theory?

Hi Ray,
got it in one especially if you are turning.
Don't use chinese cv's or you will be replacing them again in the not too distant future.
Cheers
Dave

G'day Ray,
It is unlikely to be both Cv joints. To check them, the consensus is drive forward and on full lock both ways you will hear a ticking sound. The failure i had at 75,000 on my 80 only had a vibration at about 95kph. I replaced it with a chinese CV for $160 and have driven 130,000 km on it including
Simpson Desert, Cape. Canning and towing my caravan across the
Gary Junction Road to name a few.
If it drives ok fwd, check your universals for wear. It's all a matter of elimination.
Cheers,
Bill
