Hi everyone I need help. I have just bought a 2001 Jack with the famous 3ltr diesel. it won't start when hot wait about 30 minutes it starts. roll starts easy don't have to wait. I think it might be something like a sensor telling the computer something( like don't start you bugger). I have tried changing oil with penrite diesel 5 and filters; no luck. there was a member who had the same problem MikeJroo but never found out if he got his fixed. if you are around could you help or any one else. i would be grateful as i can't afford to take Jack to Holden.

I used to have one of these jacks, but the problems did it for me, once running there was no dramas and I thought it went really
well for a 3L TD but it did my head in so now I have a TOJO.
I never found holden to be of much assistance, the guys on here had more ideas then the mechanics.
Anyway, all the best with it.
Tim

Might be worth checking the loom plug (big plug next to the dipstick)
Came
home this arvo to the missus telling me the engine
check light was on.
I went out to have a look but it would not start at all.... didn't even sound like it was gonna fire.
Have had the loom replaced previously due to oil contamination in the plug so I thought it was worth having a look. separating the plug showed a fair bit of oil (dunno how it gets in there)
sprayed it out with some wd40 and blew it dry with air, plugged it back in and it started first pop.
engine
check light is still on, but only while idling and when backing off the gas.
Took it for a drive and flogged the living crap out it and it seems better than ever to me.
Have had ours for about 6 years and it has been a great vehicle.

I did clean the plug I think it gets oil from the dipstick tube a bit of pressure coming out. I moved
mine away from there. I think
mine is an oil pressure issue, to low a pressure and won't start up . can any one tell me where the oil pressure pump is and where the oil pressure sensor is? cheers

My GU 2.8TD Patrol developed the same problem. When cold or sitting for a while it would start no problems. Stop it after a 30min run and it would not start straight away. Wife got sick of having to wait 20-30min for it to cool down enough.
After speaking with an Injection specialist I pulled off the pump and sent it in for a rebuild. Only cost $1000 and has never looked back. They said to change the fuel filter every 20,000km to stop anything getting into the pump as the newer pumps seem to wear from impurities and bypass fuel easier than older type pumps.

thanks RV,I was thinking it might be the low pressure oil pump behind the gearbox or the diesel pump. If it is the diesel pump wouldn't it do it hot or cold, why only went it's hot? I just don't know
where to start?Yesterday it wouldn't start after a short run, so I kept cranking with the 2 batteries and when the oil pressure reached about 4 on gauge she started. That's why I think it's the oil pressure. So when the oil is hot it can't get the pressure up and the sensor tells the computer not to start. When I roll start it it's all by passed and she starts straight away.

Just thinking outside the square, have you tried pouring cold water over the injector pump? If its does then 'cooling down' of the pump is the issue. If its not then that only leaves the oil pressure...

The blokes that fixed my pump said when the engine and injector pump was hot the fuel in the pump was also heated an thus much thinner and could bypass internally in the distributor of the pump.
It sure worked for my Patrol and like I said it now starts every time hot or cold and the pump is the only thing that is different.
Try the cold water on the pump, sound like a good idea Stormy!
