I have a week to enjoy some
camping on the way from
Brisbane to
Broken Hill.
Could some of you more seasoned travelers offer some recommendations of...
1. good
places to visit?
2. any
places to avoid?
3. most scenic route to take? (rather than the shortest)
We'll be traveling in a 4x4...no trailer...just tenting.
Thanks in advance
Brid

Hi
It all depends on the time and the interests you have. For me I would head down the Cunningham's Highway turn off a bit before
the gap and spend a night at Spicer's Gap.
Not all that far too Texas and stay at the common.
For me I would probably head to
Goondiwindi but don't go there on a Sunday as most of the town shuts down.
St George and see how much
water is still there, have a look at the irrigation that upsets those further down the river. A good spot to
camp is around 12ks north of the town at Beardmore Dam,(I think that's right, Sir Kev will correct me if I am wrong)
I would go on west to a bit past
Eulo, a nice
camp spot at a
Billabong up the road a bit if you are into trees and birds.
Back then and head to
Hungerford. You could spend a day or two at that National
Park, the name slips the memory at the moment, if you
camp near
the woolshed watch out for the dreadful BURR that grows there.
Choose Whiecliffs or
Tibooburra.
Have a great trip
Cheers

Currawinya National Park near
Hungerford ;)
Free Camps near Beardmore Dam are a tad wet at the moment, the
Free Camp on Wallam
Creek in
Bollon is very good at the moment and only 118km from
St George. It is also a nice short drive to
Eulo to
free camp on the Paroo or behind the pub for $5 a night.
Cheers Kev

Try to include the Warrumbungles National
Park in your route. Very scenic, good walking, very pleasant campground.

if its dry I would do the run from
Bourke to Willcannia along the
Darling river via
Louth and
Tilpa camp by the river and catch me a mess of yabbies and murray cod , dont try it if its wet ,black soil in
places can make it impassable ( always wanted to use that word ) if dry you can do it in a 2WD .

G'day aiden t...I was wondering what that would be like. It should look good at the moment I imagine. Now all I have to do is decide...some great sounding
places to see!
Thanks All again.
