EFS Suspension or Old Man Emu

Hello to all,

I would like all good and bad feedback re EFS Suspension verses Old Man Emu. I want an after market suspension upgrade to handle corrugated roads towing a small van with a gross weight of about 2,200kgs.

Thanks to all replies

EFS is great. I have fitted numerous units when I owned my workshop and I have it in my own 80 series cruiser. Not one complaint.

Had an EFS suspension upgrade on my Navara which has recently broken a leaf spring and the seals on two of the shockers have gone.

My brother has EFS shocks as well and has had to replace one of his shocks too.

I now run king springs and Koni Shocks - no problems.

I find suspension decisions quite complex....so many variables...car type, useage etc

On my Prado 120 I have quite a HD setup with Ride Pro springs and Bilstein shocks.
Terrific off road but a bit bumpy when unloaded.

On my older 105 live axle cruiser I have just recently opted for Tough dog springs and Tough dog 41mm foam cell shocks with Firestone Coil Rites as I only want a 50mm lift and some more comfort around town.

Some runners up were EFS, Dobinson and OME.

For what you are describing either of the choices you list will do the job.

Well, I dont know what vehicle you have, but.

My vote is EFS.

Have it on my hilux, all leaf, and its very comfortable, and has not sagged, has great feel on and off road.

I had a new arb Old man emu dakkar spring set on before, and it was terrible.
The rear and front springs sagged, had uneven ride height side to side.

Car was terrible on road, and would not ride well over uneven road surface.
Had no end of trouble with their warranty, and their work on the car they caused damage, misaligned prop shafts, grease marks inside and out, damage to spring hangers, they fitted one replacement leaf so out of alignment that the leaf fouled the front and rear spring hanger and shackle.

Rude staff, tried to brush me off, finally removed it and had EFS fitted, and its been a pleasure to drive, and EFS were fantastic to deal with.

Friends who have EFS coils on their 80 series are more than happy with the ride and control/ load carrying etc.

W & G,

I could describe a litany issues with ARB products and of lacklustre customer service when it comes to dealing with them. The "consumable" items like suspension and tanks (Yep the ARB Longranger tanks are considered consumable!) I would steer well clear of (I have used them twice and will not do so again). I have gone with Tough Dog Big Bore adjustable shocks and coils while resetting and strengthening the standard rear springs. I will eventually replace the rear springs and will definitly not be using OME. In your case I would stick with EFS or other reputable suppliers.

Cheers Mick

Wayne & Gaby,

I have EFS shocks on my Troopy and up until I did lots of K's on a corrigated road in the Territory I was happy with them.

The road I didn't think was that bad but the shocks overheated and gave up the ghost until they cooled down. It was that bad I thought the dash or the windscreen were going to eject themselves. To add to this, I also had OME's on before that and two of them leaked.

Just this morning ordered some big bore Tough dogs so I hope they go better.

Hi all.

Thanks to all for the responses so far.

There seems to be good and bad for both OME and EFS, what else is out there that comes recommended, thats all good??

What about TJM's XGS range of suspension, any thoughts???
