G'day all,
just after advice about a 1993 80 series. the switch on the indicator stork seems to be faulty causing the headlights and tail lights to fail. moving the wire going up into the stork turns the lights back on but and slight movement trips them off again.
am guessing the switching devise in the indicator/light stork has poor connection or is faulty some how.
So, is there an easy fix? do I need a complete indicator/light stork fitting? and if so how hard is it to replace??
where would be the best plaace in
newcastle nsw to go to get this fixed for the best $$.
cheers.

Something worth checking is where the wires go out of the stalk into the plastic shroud around the steering column. A few weeks ago my friend bought his Falcon around to me to look at that had exactly the same problem.
Turned that one of the wires had rubbed through just where it exits the stalk & goes into the steering column. Was not real hard to take off the steering column shrould as it was in 2 halves screwed together. Cant imagine it would be much different on your 80 series.

A known problem with older 75 series Troopys is contact failure in the switch. Our Troopy sometimes loses all lights briefly when changing from high beam to low, but I haven't gone inside yet to check. Your 80 series may
well have the same switch gear.
The following was posted a while back on the Yahoo Oztroopy
forum and might be helpful:
" I am having some problems with the headlights on my 75 series troopy. When I
switch from low to high beam my lights often just go off completely. As I live
a long way from any street lights this can be a bit of a problem. I can usually
get it to work by going back to low beam and then back to high beam again."
the most promising response was this one:
"I had the same problem about 6 years ago.
Mine happened right in the middle
of the Nullarbor, lights dropped right out when I switched to high beam. Only
way I got lights was to hold the light switch back on high beam. Needless to say
I pulled over when I found a
camp and when I turned the lights right off they
came back on! Pulled the combination switch apart a few days later and found the
small round contact on one of the strips had fallen out. I put it back in with
some solder on the back and it's only just started playing up again after about
6 years so time to have another look at it."

common fault if you upgrade the globes in the headlights to higher wattage units...the contacts burn...but they usually stop working on high beam, not wiggle the wire and it works again, so i would check the connections inside the column.
