Hi
We're in final stages of deciding to buy a Cavalier CT. Visited the
Melbourne Leisurefest over the weekend and, have spent the last year looking at different trailers, decided on the Cavalier. I have a couple of questions I was hoping you guys would be able to answer:
- firstly, security. What will I need to get to secure the trailer when towing and when set up? I've read that locks for the zips on the doors are a good idea, but what about the trailer itself?
- bike racks. Probably going to have a tow bar provisioned at the rear of the trailer for carrying a bike rack. We're not going to go off road so I figure we should be okay mounting at the back. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance
Aidan

Aiden,
I have seen a great bike rack built specifically to go on the back of a 4wd.
isi Carriers
The bloke who designed them is a Landcruiser owner and also loves mountain biking.
As for trailer security, I use small keyed alike padlocks when needed for the zippers etc and Talon hitch and reciever locks for when towing.
Cheers Kev

Thanks Kev.
Ours isn't a 4WD but this would probably suit anyway.

You really should do a search on here because CT security comes up heaps.
What's the issue with security whilst towing? Do you mean whilst parked in town etc. If so my answer is not to worry about it - never had an issue - at least not where I've been. If you're concerned maybe padlock the towing hitch so they can't steal the whole CT off the back of the vehicle.
When set up - paddlocking the zippers will just indicate there's something worthwhile to take inside. And it doesn't take much to cut through canvas so I reckon it's pointless worrying about that. Just don't leave anything of value inside (or outside) if you're not around. Lock it in the car or take it with you.
As to the CT itself when set up - just paddlock the towing hitch when you're going to leave it.
That's about all I do and have never had anything knocked off and still have the CT!

Thanks Moose!
I have searched around but wanted to get some up to date advice.
You read so many horror stories and when you've just dropped $15k on a new camper you don't want it nicked from the Macca's
carpark!
Think I'll probably opt for the padlocks on the hitch when travelling. I'm not sure if our insurance policy will stipulate that we have to padlock the zippers - but I'm with you in that it will probably attract more attention.
Thanks for the reply.

Hi ajcooper,
I have been on the road for 5yrs and all I can say to you is insure every thing, and get out there and enjoy it. We are all becoming so paranoid about security, and dont get me wrong I am not saying things do not happen, but in the majority nothing happens, you only hear of the worst case situations, and that is not saying do not be aware, but you will have a ball....LoL
