Hello all

I am travelling through the Gawler Ra and then 'resting' in Ceduna for 1-2 days and doing Goog's Tk next. Originally I intended to head out to Glendambo from Kingoonya after completing the northing section (allocating 2 wks for all this). I have now discovered that one can loop south from Kingoonya through Lake Everard and Mt. Hiltaba back to Wirulla. I would like to know please:

1) how much time to do the Gawler comfortably?

2) as above for Goog's Tk from Ceduna/Kingoonya/Wirulla?

3) can one get through to Glendambo from Kingoonya (given that I've heard the rail co. own the track and fine trespassers)?

cheers

G'day Daryl,

1) how much time to do the Gawler comfortably?

I have spent only a few days there, but it was a while back & cant remember alot of the trip. Maybe someone else can help you with this one

2) as above for Goog's Tk from Ceduna/Kingoonya/Wirulla?

We took two days from Ceduna to Tarcoola, Staying a night at Googs Lake & the second at Tarcoola. Was a great trip, but unless you like to spend time and stay in one place for a while, theres not much reason to take any longer. IMO

3) can one get through to Glendambo from Kingoonya (given that I've heard the rail co. own the track and fine trespassers)?

From what I remember the road from Kingoonya to Glemdambo isn't part of the restricted road. I think that only applies to the west of Tarcoola.

More info will be found in the trek notes in the blue bar at the top of the page

Have a great trip.

Thanks PMK, I've checked the notes but they don't include the southbound section from Kingoonya - Wirulla. I was thinking maybe 6-7 days to do the lot....Ceduna/Kingoonya/Wirulla? Which would include a couple of nights at one place or t'other.

Hoping to see lots of flowers, water in the lakes and wildlife!

cheers

Hey Dusty,

6-7 days should be good to do Ceduna -Tarcoola - Kingoonya- Glendambo and then down thru the Gawler Ranges. You can exit the ranges at Wirrulla if your headed west or Minnipa , Wudinna , Kimba or Iron Knob if youre heading east on the highway. You could easily spend a week in the Ranges if you wanted to as it is vast and interesting. A good stop is Mt Ive Station- great little camping area, friendly camp kitchen and good hosts. They have some good 4wd tracks.

You need to pay a fee if you stop or camp in the national park area which was the Payney Station but there are some interesting sights here. Grab some Gawler Ranges Tourist Info in Ceduna.

The old pub in Kingoonya is a friendly stop.

Have a great trip.

Cheers SOLO

Thanks v.much SOLO! Interesting route you've given, hadn't considered that. I was going in from Iron Knob and out at Ceduna and then heading north up Goog's Tk. All up I've got 2 wks so will rework the figures

cheers

Daryl,

My response relates mainly to Googs Track. Have done it 2 x an enjoyed on both occasions.

There is so much to see. IF you enjoy the enviroment - flora and fauna. Would go back again and stay several days around Googs lake.

We are into bird watching and just relaxing and this is a top spot for that, particularly during spring.

Do it and enjoy the trip.

Don't forget that you can camp for free at Kingoonya and the Hotel lets you take a shower for a small fee. The free camping area is alongside the railway tracks near the public toilet area. We (Kingoonya progress association are about to do an upgrade of this area by installing a shade sail for the comfort of travellers. Fuel is also about 10 cents a litre cheaper in Kingoonya.

If you take your time and do a couple of the walks and do the sights 3 days for Gawler Ranges National Park. If you are a keen photographer it will take longer.

We took 3 days to do Goog's track. just because we were not in a hurry. You could do it a lot faster.

Only part of the trans-australian railway road is closed. The new Hema maps clearly show the closed section.
