Does anyone know if the troopy who blew up the gearbox on the Ann Beadell got towed out the 700kms to
Laverton ok. Could be one of the longest recoveries ever.

We were listening to him talk to VKS737
Adelaide base while we were camped on the Cooper just after they had located a gearbox/transfer case combination for him but didn't hear how her got on after that.

Hi Barry, The troopy had done about 200,000 kms, they lost every gear, we were heading east when we saw them at Lake Yeo under tow.

They changed the gearbox in 1999 from the H55F to the R151 and these had a much shorter lifespan.
The R151 is reputed to have started life as a 4 speed in a 1970s Toyota Supra.
Then it became a gearbox in the Bundeera and Hilux 4wd range and was later fitted to the 78/79 series behind the 1HZ
I asked a gearbox reconditioner where the weak points were and he just said "everywhere ,in the bearings ,the splines, the synchroes and the shafts"
There were some upgrades done around 2000.
My H55F has done 260 000 klms and has no whines or grinds and has not had an easy life.
