Many thanks to replys to my previous thread on the GVM for the LC79 series Incredibile number of views and some very interesting replies...bottom line I think that many are overloaded without realising .....maybe opened a few eyes

I will be doing an upgrade.......here in WA have Lovellell's Springs have an agent and speaking with them they sound very professional......

West Coast Suspensions do one as well....about $1,500 cheaper........why I ask the huge $ difference

ARB similar price to Lovelle's...does anybody have comments on who to use or not use?

Thanks

A friend I travel with a lot has had the 3700kg Lovells upgrade since the vehicle was new in 2007. He's had no issues with the springs or the shocks - just replaced the shocks recently. Whoever fitted it incorrectly fitted greasable shackles that were too short for the 79series and resulted in a pin breaking out in the desert - but we replaced the shackles with the originals when back home.

Whoops a typo - he's had them for 7 years - since 2003. Replaced the shocks because the bushes were gone, but the shocks were still OK. Looks like good stuff to me.

Putting in heavier springs will not change the GVM of your vehicle. To do this you will have to go through engineering - though this may be as simple as getting heavier springs and getting the paperwork signed off.

Thanks.

I do understand all the legal requirements...simply looking to see the options of who to use to get the job done..... (or not to go to perhaps)

Hi Bungarra

I had the OME suspension upgrade with shocks and springs and 2 inch lift, with the 600kg rear springs fitted but found the ride was a bit rough when not fully loaded. I got them changed to the 200kg rear springs and then fitted rear airbags, this has improved the ride and with 30 pounds in the airbags the back end doesn't sag when fully loaded.

I was worried at the start that the airbags may affect articulation but after 6 months travel I have had no problems on tracks like CSR and OTT Cape York.

The vehicle now handles better on and off road.

Bungarra, I can only comment on the OME upgrade from ARB. Had it done (GVM now 3,700 KG) when I bought the 79 Series in 2008. We regularly carry heavy loads, and apart from being legal (or closer to it), the result has been good. I've also installed Boss airbags on the rear springs, which unlike the spring upgrade, is adjustable. I vary the bag pressure between 10 PSI and 60 PSI, depending on load and circumstance.

Yes, the ride is stiffer when lightly loaded, but that is pretty rare for us.

I doubt that there is lot of difference between the various better known companies for the GVM upgrade. The key is what are they replacing (bang for bucks), what is the warranty, what is the price and is the certification done properly so it is accepted Australia wide.

I went with ARB as I'd used them before and had good after sales service.
